We had a great day with artist Debs Marsh creating amazing artwork inspired by Southampton's history and our own family stories in 'Family Trees'.

107 years ago today, at 2.20am, RMS Titanic foundered after striking an iceberg, with the loss of approximately 1,500 souls- 549 of that number had provided a Southampton address. In strictly numerical terms, there are few British peacetime tragedies that affected communities as much as the sinking of the Titanic had on Southampton. Its impact is still keenly felt here today. This painting is on display at the museum and was begun in 1912.

Fantastic news about a project that'll be recording and researching the Soldiers' Wall on Western Espanade (behind Tudor House and Garden)! One of the bricks is on display here at SeaCity too! üòä https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-ham pshire-44403477

This beautiful first class menu card from Titanic is on display at SeaCity. It also dates from 107 years ago #onthisday. Menu cards doubled up as postcards and this one was sent by 38-saloon steward called Edward Hendy. Tragically Edward was lost in the sinking of Titanic just four short days later. BBC Radio Solent's Neil Sackley popped in this afternoon to talk to us about the enduring impact of Titanic on Southampton 107 years after leaving the town. It includes some fascinating archive audio from Titanic survivor Edith Haisman. The item begins around 1 hour 52. 📻🎙 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p074q2p s

At midday on Wednesday 10th April 1912, RMS Titanic departed from Southampton. We are very fortunate to have this wonderful artefact returned to display at the museum. üé•üèõ

Throughout the week that Titanic was in Southampton around 415 tons of coal were burned through to run in the engines and to warm up the hot water and heating facilities on the ship. Coal was fed into Titanic through chutes built into the side of the ship. This photograph shows how coaling might have been conducted (but it isn't Titanic). #didyouknow

this is an ecellent museum, very well set out and some quirky bits-like the police cells as loos and the 1920s slot machines

User

What a fabulous family trip. I have been to the Titanic experience in Belfast and actually think this was better. Great fun for children and the wildlife photography exhibition was an added bonus. Highly recommend!

User

Lovely place to visit. I went with my parents as my mum loves anything to do with Titanic. She loved it. I didn't expect to find it interesting but I also loved it. I will be returning with them and my family to spend more time. We visited the restaurant and gift shop which were also very good. The staff were great and very friendly. Very reasonable admission prices too. Highly recommended.

User

Just popped in to kill some time and 3 hours later we were reluctant to leave. Absolutely amazing exhibition and artefacts! Loved it and intend to gonna keep again next week.

User

It was my mum's birthday on Friday so my sister and I decided to deviate from the norm and take a drive into Southampton from London. We got to emerse ourselves in the Titanic history and felt we'd learnt a lot. We also found the Inquiry into the event quite fascinating as well as listening to the 3 people interviewed later on giving their own accounts of events. I will certainly go back again.

User

I visited today for one of the 'Discover the Titanic' sessions with my two children (6 & 9years old). We were not disappointed, absolutely fascinating couple of hours led by our excellent guide Andy. I would thoroughly recommend people to book for these types of events in the future. It was pitched just right for both the children and the adults alike, and i thought the mix and the timing of each activity was also spot on. We came out having learnt some incredible facts (which will come in very useful for my son's titanic topic starting next week at school!), and keen to come back to visit and learn even more!

User

I took my daughter here yesterday and she loved it especially dressing up in the olden days clothes and all the Titanic exhibitions . The only downside was the fact that the 'furnace game' for children is located too near the screening of the survivors film . The noise of the game overtook hearing the people's voices on the film ÔøΩ

User

I loved the different aspects of it. Interesting how u can tell back then when the survyvours where lying.

X the games room kids loved it.

The shop could do with selling some of the games.

Had a good time. A varied exhibit. The Titanic exhibit was interesting providing a dramatised court scene on screen. Cafe had good service a nice coffee. Would go again.

User

Had a fantastic visit with my son who is 21 his girlfriend aged 19 and my youngest son age 12 - we all thoroughly enjoyed our visit - really intetesting and lots of intetactive exhibits. Would definitely recommend. We had lunch in tbe cafe there and the prices were very reasobable and the staff very friendly.

User

Had a fab day. My 10 year old loved ever bit of it. They have done a great job with the history on the Titanic and although it was sad hearing from witnesses and seeing people's possessions it helped my son understand what happened. Great touch with the courtroom and loads of interactive things for the kids to get involved in throughout the museum. Could honestly say we all enjoyed this museum. It makes a great day out and all parts were interesting and they have done a great job. Best one I have been to for a while.

User

Great experience ‘aboard’ the Titanic. Really well done and good entertainment even for adults 👍 good price too. highly recommend.

User

A friend & I had the guided tour of the Titanic. We learned lots that we didn't know before & our guide brought the facts to life in a human & relatable manner. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour & continued exploring afterwards. Ate in the café which was clean & friendly though we missed the kitchen cooking times & had a sandwich. A great trip!

User

A fabulous family friendly afternoon! We thoroughly enjoyed the Titanic exhibition, and to see our relative with his name on the wall was very emotional. Our 14 year old son was a tad unsure to begin with, but really found it all very interesting. Thank you.

User

We had a lovely time there. My son is obsessed with Titanic and knew a lot about it already but he found out more information on this visit. He had a great time exploring all the facts and steering the Titanic. Well worth a visit

User

Really good day out quite a bit to do for all ages. It could do with more interactive items for the children. Some of the touch screens need to be serviced as they didn't work.

The WIFI needs sorting out.

I would go again and the kids loved it.

User

Very well laid out although it should be called the Titanic and Olympic exhibition as most artefacts were from the Olympic. The interactive stations were not working. Unfortunately a large part of the museum was closed without explanation and the shop had a limited range of expensive tat.

User

Very small museum and not family friendly. Enjoyed some of the Titanic exhibit but seeing as Southampton was key to the Titanic’s history I expected more, it was very brief. There are hardly any interactive thing for younger children, I’d take 12yrs plus no younger. Thank goodness the board game exhibit was there, we really enjoyed that as a family! Luckily we had free tickets. We wouldn’t pay to go there as you would be here for an hour max (at a push). Disappointing as it could have been so much better!
