In our propagation department we have been preparing seeds from some rarer plants to sow in our high tech propagation unit. In the wild some of these seeds experience smoke from a wild fire which activates the germination process. To recreate this we use smoke seed primer paper, which has been infused with smoke-saturated water and a combination of natural substances that overcome dormancy and stimulate seed germination. The green disks are added to water and the resulting solution can then be used to soak the seeds in and sow as usual.
