Latest Update on Covid-19
Thank you for all your comments and feedback over the last couple of days.
We have closed our site to customers, but there are services we continue to provide because, as an Authorised Treatment Facility for end of life vehicles much of what we do supports the emergency services sector. Damaged vehicles obstructing the highways still have to be removed, particularly now when the emergency services need to be able to move quickly around unobstructed... roads.
Our parts department is supporting the garages that have stayed open to procure parts in order to keep ‘critical workers’ mobile, and we will continue to play our part in this, supporting the NHS, the Ambulance Service, the Fire Service, the Police, care workers, all of the ancillary support workers for these groups, and of course all the workers in the supply chain delivering food and medical supplies.
Since the government announcement on Monday we have been taking urgent action to scale our operations down to this point and as of yesterday we have sent 90% of our staff home on furlough for the foreseeable future.
The remainder of our staff still working are either working from home or working singly in offices. Similarly, the two dismantling staff removing parts are working at a distance greater than the required safe distance.
In addition, we have provided hand sanitiser and latex gloves for all of them, nobody is sharing any equipment and we are checking everyone’s temperature throughout the day.
Here at Silverlake we take our social responsibilities seriously and please be assured none of the remaining staff are being forced to work.
As this is a fast changing situation, we will keep you updated should our operations change. In the meantime, may we take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and understanding and we wish that you all remain safe and well.

As you will all be aware following Monday night’s broadcast by the Prime Minister, we have had to make some changes to the way we operate our business. At Silverlake we have always tried to provide a professional approach to our business, and act responsibly to our employees, clients, customers, and the community in which we work. These values will be maintained as we go forward into an environment that none of us anticipated, and ...to this end we would like to explain how we will operate. Parts sales • Our sales teams will continue to work remotely, so car parts can be bought online from our eBay store and our website. All orders will be delivered by our own vans and/or third party shippers, and our stores and shipping teams fulfilling the orders will be fully complying with social distancing measures. • Please work with our drivers to ensure minimum contact, and all orders must be prepaid electronically. • Our business premises will be closed to all customers. UpickIt • Our self- service parts yard is now closed and will remain so until the current situation changes. Auctions • Our online auction will take place this afternoon and will not operate from close of business today until further notice. Our auctions will resume as and when it is safe to do so. • All payment must be done electronically, prior to any collection. • Collections will need to follow strict social distancing measures and be at agreed times. Our operating times will be Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm, closed Saturday and Sunday until further notice. Vehicle collections • We will continue where practical to collect vehicles from our clients and to support front line services. We will, however, require confirmation before collections to ensure that we can comply with the government’s social distancing measures. • We would ask our collection clients to recognise the difficulties that we may have with staffing and try to consolidate collections where possible. In keeping with the nation we are committed to meet the needs of all our communities in this difficult situation, and we thank you for your anticipated support. For all you die hard dismantlers out there, we have some decent vehicles in our self service area right now. Cars we don't see that often. Business as usual At present our business remains unaffected by the impact of ...Covid-19 coronavirus, and we continue as usual, quoting for and buying your old vehicles, dismantling and re-selling reusable car parts and selling/fitting part worn tyres. Promoting hygienic working practices Our staff are constantly reminded to wash their hands thoroughly and we have provided hand sanitiser for their use and for the use of our customers. Surfaces, including door handles, are being regularly cleaned with antibacterial cleanser, and our van and lorry drivers have all been provided with their own supply of hand sanitiser to prevent, as far as possible, any spread of the virus via contact when collecting cars from clients or delivering parts to customers. Ensuring the health and safety of everyone is our top priority and in order to maintain this, we are monitoring and following the advice and guidance issued by Public Health England, the Department of Health and Social Care and the World Health Organisation. This includes: • monitoring reported cases and infection rates; • monitoring travel advice and reducing all non-essential travel for Silverlake staff within or outside of the UK; • internal monitoring of absence levels in line with typical measures at this time of year; • providing updates to our staff via internal communication in addition we will be engaging with our third-party suppliers to ascertain their readiness for dealing with the Covid-19 virus and its implications. Our commitment Throughout the coming weeks, we will continue to watch for new developments as the situation unfolds and adapt our working practices accordingly. We will also continue to update our customers through the use of telephone, email and social media, so that if the virus has such an impact that we can no longer conduct business as usual, you will be among the first to know.
