A lovely patient update | Lola is a four-year-old French Bulldog-cross. Eight months ago Lola slipped a disc in her back and became paralysed, requiring her to have a right-sided hemilaminectomy and decompression of the spinal cord. Under the care of Darren Carwardine and the Langford team, Lola spent five days in the Small Animal Referral Hospital before she was ready to go home. We are delighted to report that Lola has made a full recovery and is now enjoying life at her home in Wales.

We’ve had a great time Vetcpd Congress- thank you everyone who came to speak to us, it was great to catch up with some old friends and make some new ones! Well done to all our speakers: Eleri Counsell, our Senior Surgery Ward Nurse, speaking on how to handle the difficult wound. Suz Rudd, our Senior Feline Nurse speaking about feline blood transfusions, and nursing the hyperthyroid cat. Claudia Hartley, our Head of Ophthalmology, for her interactive ophthalmology talk and her... lecture on uveitis. Thank you for sharing your experience with the wider veterinary community, and thanks to all of the other speakers for sharing their skills. We’ve enjoyed lots of really interesting discussions and lectures. #vetcpd2018

Congratulations to Ashleigh Webster, who recently completed the BSAVA Vet Nurse Merit Award in Surgical Nursing, with the highest possible mark in her case study and 90% in the exam. Ashleigh graduated from the University of Bristol in 2014 and since then has been a Surgery Ward Nurse in Langford Vets Small Animal Referral Hospital. She is yet another member of the Langford Vets nursing team who is striving for excellence in her chosen profession.

Congratulations to Michelle Oliver who completed the Muddy Dog Challenge, alongside her Labrador, Bailey in August. The challenge, which took place in Cardiff, involved a 2.5km run with various dog-friendly obstacles to overcome. Michelle, who works in our finance team, raised the fantastic sum of £155 for Battersea Dogs & Cats. This amount will be matched by Langford Vets. Well done to Michelle and a special mention must go to Bailey, who is now 13-years-old and still going strong.

Tom Smith, who is one of only 12 VTS qualified nurses in Emergency and Critical Care across the UK, gives a fascinating insight into life as an ICU nurse at Langford.
Langford Vets is a brilliant place for career progression in nursing. Tom is one of three VTS qualified nurses with Holly Witchell also specialising in Emergency and Critical Care and Hayley Burdge holding the VTS title in Surgery.
