About Soli

Soli is a Catholic Youth Retreat Centre serving young people aged 14-25 from the Archdiocese of Birmingham.

Soli Description

We are one of the two residential retreat centres serving the young people from the Archdiocese of Birmingham, and beyond.

Our newly refurbished centre opened in 2014 following over 60 years of tradition in Stratford Upon Avon. It is a place where many can encounter Christ through retreats designed to meet the needs of people from different backgrounds. We have a community of young adults who are keen to grow together in faith and prayer so as to be effective communicators of the Catholic Faith in a peer ministry setting.

Soli provides Youth Ministry for young people and young adults aged 14-25 yrs. Trained staff and volunteers aged 18-25yrs work under the direction of a programme director and spiritual director to develop a model of relational peer ministry. Peer ministry helps us understand youth culture and effectively communicate the gospel in a way that is most helpful to our young people. Soli provides programmes that are tailored to meet students’ needs as they explore the issues and big questions that they face growing up in today’s world. Retreats include the use of creative arts, multimedia, workshops, prayer and small group work with opportunities for Holy Mass, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Confession, and personal reflection. We have a strong tradition of music and liturgy that Soli has established. Our location in the Churnet Valley provides a beautiful setting for retreats and the possibility of including some outdoor activities as part of the retreat programme.

It’s been a busy and at times rainy few days here in Lourdes but we all can’t help but smile! Working with pilgrims, under 16’s and everyone on pilgrimage is a joy and a privilege. If you’re here, come and say Hi! We love to chat and help if we can, if you aren’t, please pray for us and everyone here, and know you’re being prayed for too! #brum2lourdes #lourdes ... #birminghamarchdiocese @ Basilique Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire de Lourdes

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Jim Lynskey yesterday. Jim was a friend of Soli having visited us on retreat, with many former team members having a fond friendship with Jim.
This morning we keep Jim in our prayers: Eternal rest grant unto Jim, O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
... We also keep his friends and family in our prayers at this time.
Jim set up a charity called Save9Lives, give it a follow to read his story and to keep his legacy alive. https://www.save9lives.com/

“I sought to hear the voice of God and climbed the topmost steeple, but God declared: "Go down again - I dwell among the people.”
Blessed John Henry Newman, from the Archdiocese of Birmingham(!) is to be declared a saint!
It was said of him that he would be “an example and inspiration for people who struggle, who’s lives are a bit complicated” because his life was too, and “that’s alright... it’s really about how we handle the mess rather than have things perfect all the whil...e” (Monsignor Roderick Strange, “John Henry Newman, A Mind Alive”)
The role of saints is to inspire us with their example of holiness in the ordinary

“Serve the Lord joyfully!” Today is the feast day of Saint John Bosco, a man who spent his life working to help young people get educated, have shelter and better lives. He is also patron saint of Magicians, and that’s pretty cool too 🎉 #donbosco #feast #stjohnbosco
