About Spitfire & Hurricane Memorial Museum

Spitfire and Hurricane museum situated at Manston in East Kent.

Spitfire & Hurricane Memorial Museum Description

The Spitfire & Hurricane Memorial Museum is situated on one of the very few surviving airfields which participated in the Battle of Britain.

RAF Manston was the closest airfield to the enemy coast and bore the brunt of the early Luftwaffe air attacks in the long hot summer of 1940.

Permanently housed at Manston are splendid and original examples of the two World War 2 fighter aircraft which served the Royal Air Force so well in so many areas of battle both at home and overseas. The Museum exists to educate the public about the vital role that these aircraft performed during the Battle of Britain, and about the difficult period of history in which they operated. The Museum, which is largely staffed by volunteers, welcomes many visitors each year from all over the world, and provides a focal point for commemorations of and reflections on the sacrifices made during the Second World War.

We are proud that the Museum has now been part of our community for three decades and look forward to welcoming you.

Full details about the Museum can be found on our website.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Dear simulator customers, please be aware that on Friday August 17th, the Spitfire Museum will be without power for the day due to planned electrical works. HOWEVER, we have secured generators so bookings for the 17th of August will still be accepted and honoured and the tills and cafe will still be open for visitors. It may be a little dark though, so here's hoping the weather for the 17th is fine!

Wow ! absolutely amazing day, well done to the organisers and thank you. The fly past by the spitfire was awesome, grandchildren love it, looking forward to going back to try out the new simulator.

User

What a very enjoyable experience. One of the more interesting museums in Kent and thoroughly worth a visit. And if you get a chance the Spitfire Simulator is worth a go.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable morning here at one of the latest Wheels of Time destinations. The staff were very friendly and attentive with our 6 year old daughter.

It was a privilege to see the planes up close and there is so much more to see here too. I was particularly impressed with the hidden compasses!

Lovely café too. Excellent food, fantastic prices.

Please remember to donate.

This is a fabulous place to visit and the spitfire flight experience (which you have to book) was worth it. The cafe is also worth it great value for money.

User

Such an interesting place didn't expect to see so much in a small museum, had lunch in the little cafe lovely fresh food and lots of it ,had a thoughly enjoyable couple of hours.

User

Really enjoyed my Spitfire simulation flight and instructor gave very clear instruction to me as a non pilot. The rest of the museum is well worth a visit and it was very nice to see a school group taking interest in the displays and the talks they were given.

Not the biggest of places but packed with History. Loved the planes. Staff friendly and helpful.

User

Lovely family day out both our boys enjoyed it especially the almost three year old.

User

Loved every minute and the 2 reception staff were lovely and engaging with the kids. A great place to visit and I’m definitely coming back on my own so I can actually read all the information.

User

I’ve been here more times than I can remember, even though I live all the way in Birmingham! Although it’s small, there’s so much fasinating stuff here - I find something new every time, but also get drawn to the same things each time. Lovely collection, & have fond memories of coming with my Grandparents who were local to the area

User

I have just done the Spitfire simulator and I have to say it has been one of my best experiences ever. I had a great time and Steve, my instructor, got the balance of instructing and letting me enjoy the day just right. Highly recommended and good value.

User

I had a wonderful morning at the Museum's Spitfire experience simulator today. What an experience, totally blown away. Thank you to my instructor Peter Neall, such a lovely man

User

Great place to visit, spend time and to eat within sight of one of the most famous of Battle of Britain airfields.

User

Great place to visit from an historical aspect, also has a great atmosphere, friendly staff, and a lovely place to eat. What more can you ask for, oh and it’s free entry...

User

Fantastic little museum and memorial garden. £2.50 for an adult and 50p for kids. Yes it's small but we spent a couple of hours here without even realising it. Plus there is a nice sized cafe with plenty of grub.

User

A wonderful morning spent here for my husband’s birthday. Everything was beautifully displayed and well kept. Such a shame that the Battle of Britain Museum at Hawkhinge doesn’t get the same attention (not down to the wonderful volunteers of course). The government should be ashamed of themselves! To top it all I lost a precious earring and the staff at the Spitfire Museum found it and are posting it to me - fabulous staff!

User

A pleasure to go somewhere that is free ! Brillant entertainment from the Blue Belles and fantastic flying from The Spirt of Kent Spitfire to celebrate RAF 100. Good ride out too although tad cold thawed out now !

User
