About St Ives Club

A friendly social club with dart boards, snooker and pool tables and juke box. Regular clubs and societies. New members welcome. Available for hire.

St Ives Club Description

In 1949, forty ex servicemen met at the village hall and agreed to form St Leonards & St Ives Ex Services Club. Each person paid one shilling each and the £2. 00 raised became the starting capital. The grounds were donated by the parents of Squadron Leader Dennis Beck, who sadly was killed in action during the Second World War.

St Leonards & St Ives Club was built by volunteers and on Easter Sunday 1954, the Club was opened by Col. E. G. St Aubyn the Chairman of the Welcome Home Fund.

St Ives Club as it is known to locals, has been added to over the years and members are no longer exclusively ex service personnel; however we do like to keep the founding spirit alive and we support Help For Heroes and the Royal British Legion.

Keep your eyes peeled for what's happening on Tuesday nights!

Some news for you! I have heard yesterday that the Committee has approved that Ian Roberts and I work together to provide live music nights. Ian has some excellent ideas and says that we can find some ways of making the evenings huge! Watch out for some open mic nights!

Thanks to everyone who came Saturday and supported the Club's 65th Anniversary; also thanks to those who wore 50s dress, you made it special!
We have learned much from organising this event and all comments have been noted. Many thanks to Candy who worked beyond the call of duty and also thanks to Carole White and the two Sues' who helped to set it all up and helped with the food, plus thank you Russell Archer for sourcing the food for us. Thank you to Linda who helped with some clearing away and everyone who contributed in some way.
Thanks to all of you lovely members who have left very supportive comments which have helped to foster and feed the community spirit. The feedback really has been mostly very positive and so who knows, we may do something like it again! Liz.

Next up is the Sticky Jam Band, playing covers from the 50s onwards----rock, blues and country and good ol rock n roll. May 11th. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaGGB0Xbu OE

This one Little Darling was dedicated by the band to Candy.

Lorraine and Gill. Quite a few came in 50s dress and I am sorry that I didn't get photos of you all! If anyone has photos of themselves or friends, please do share them, it was so lovely to see and thank you all for making the effort!

Love is Here to Stay!

We went back in time! Spring Time in Paris! Pat the Band Leader mentioned the Notre Dame and said that although it wasn't yet known who started the fire, the detective had a hunch!

I think we all loved the cake!

So excited now! I love how things are looking for tomorrow; many thanks to Sue Miller, Sue Tizzard, Carol White and of course Candy for putting it all ready! It looks just how I pictured it! Just a little preview!

Don't miss this fun and educational animal show, for kids and their parents, coming up in May. (See Events)

We do want you all to come and celebrate with us even if you don't have a ticket for the buffet. There is no door fee for non-members who do not have tickets on this occasion! In the first half Swing Unlimited will play some WW2 songs, including Glen Miller and early 50s like Ella Fitzgerald and Sinatra. The second half will be ramped right up for dancing, like the Blues Bro's etc. We will do our founding members proud!
