About St Matthias Church Torquay
Welcome to The Parish of St. Matthias’, St Mark and Holy Trinity, Torquay.
St Matthias Church Torquay Description
Whatever the reason you are trying to find out more about the church, we'll be delighted to see you.
We're a growing church family of around 200 people, and you will see on these web pages that we offer a wide range of styles of church services and activities, to which everyone is welcome, and that these don't just take place on Sunday.
The number of families is growing rapidly, so don’t worry if you’re unsure how you’ll manage with even small children or babies. We expect children to be themselves - children! But we’re also finding that many older and single people are finding a home here too.
Like any church family, some of us have a lot of faith, some of us have little. However, we journey with each other, discovering more of the incredible love that God the Father has for us, and of the fulfilment of living that we find in Jesus Christ.
We regularly offer courses to explore what Christianity is all about - for those who are sceptical - and those who are less so. However, if there is a particular matter you would like to discuss with us, please feel free to contact the clergy so that we can arrange a time to meet.
If you do come along for a service, please make yourself known to one of the clergy or welcome teams so that we can get to know you better.
We look forward to meeting you.
May God bless you.
John

On Sunday, 25th February, 1934 - 83 years ago today - I was baptised at St Matthias by the Vicar, Mr Ward, and I have always felt an affection for this church. Although for many years now I have regularly worshipped at All Saints, Babbacombe, a church in the Anglo-Catholic tradition, I have always felt a warm welcome on the occasions when I have come to St Mathias. At Evensong on the Second Sunday in Advent in 1974, "Bible Sunday", the Vicar, Mr Redfern, preached on the importance of Scripture study, and his sermon inspired me to begin daily reading of the New Testament, which I have done ever since.
I am delighted to see that St Matthias is still flourishing.
Love it here. The people we meet with each week. The services. The clergy. Will love it even more when the re-ordering is done.
I am a "Church Crawler" and therefore interested in taking photographs relevant to Church History and Architecture (Ecclesiology). St Matthias happens to be my local church and whenever I have visited I have always received a most polite and warm welcome. Staff are very helpful and do all that they can for visitors. Thank you so much. It is an absolute pleasure and delight to have such a wonderful Church in Wellswood.
