The Art House Description
"To live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory. ” (Howard Zinn)
Welcome to The Art House - an art cafe, gallery and venue in the heart of Southampton.
We bring people together over art, tea and cake, and we are here to nurture the beautiful creative spirit.
In the words of one of our visitors, we are: "A place where I can be myself, feel welcome, safe and with like minded people"
Home grown, community run, not-for-profit, handmade, quirky and original, our space offers a relaxed place to connect with your creativity and enjoy wholesome, homecooked food.
The Art House was created in 2007 as a space for grassroots, fringe and outsider art.
We offer an eclectic programme of events, workshops and performances.
You will also find many clubs and groups to join, a crafts and preloved clothes Boutique and original art exhibitions by local artists.
All of these lovely things are housed in our award winning cafe with a licenced bar, which is open during the day and most evenings, serving food, drinks, snacks and cakes.
If you are looking for a creative gathering place that's different from anywhere you've ever been, a place that welcomes the unexpected and unusual, you will feel very at home here.
So don't stay in; come and visit us today. Here are some highlights coming up soon

Sneaky peek and what we will be delivering soon 🙂
Well done Nick Haigh from the university of Southampton for capturing this amazing image of comet Atlas. Alas it appears to be breaking up after its 4400 year journey back to us, so it is unlikely that it will put on the spectacular display astronomers were hoping for in May.
Safe Social Separation Assured.
Another reason to stay at home!

Both this post and the comments section on the original post are full of very useful things for anyone who doesn’t yet have coping mechanisms for ‘trauma brain’. Even if you are experienced in managing your trauma, you may not have access to your normal coping mechanisms and support systems at the moment.
