About The Butcher'S Hook

The most sought-after beers in the UK on Cask & Keg alongside ciders & wines served in an old butcher's beautifully converted into a Micropub & Alehouse.

The Butcher'S Hook Description

A beautifully preserved Victorian butchers shop transformed into a traditional alehouse selling gravity fed cask ales, craft keg, ciders and wines. The smallest pub with the biggest beer list in Southampton.

Wow loved it ... loved the vibe the staff the choice and the drinking clients ... what a great find and to think for ages I thought it was a restaurant that served meat ... like derrrr

User

We popped in here after hearing about it in the Daily Echo. The first impression is that it is certainly cosy. Don't let this fool you, some how you fit in and find a space. This all lends its self to a very informal atmosphere where you get to converse with every one the.

The decor is great, the original butchers shop features work well for the feel of the pub.

The beer that I had was a tasty hoppy little number, on the lighter side, as I was driving. I had a taste of the porter which was full and malty! Overall I can't wait to go again!

User

This is an amazing little pub with so much choice and a ale for everyone. I love this place so much I traveled from Southsea to go there

User

Superb beer, great staff, great vibe, welcoming and friendly drinkers. My favourite drinking hole in the city.

User

Such a social atmosphere with a great choice of beer, ale, porter, cider and stout's!!!

User

Small ex-butchers shop, really good beers always available. No music, no slot machines, no TVs, no nonsense; just really good beers. I'm sorry, but what's not to like?

User

Popped out to get milk from the coop, accidentally went into this micro pub and accidentally drank a few cheeky swift halves, fine beer, well kept, great staff and punters, forgot about the milk......

User

I love the "hook". It used to be my local and I still consider it to be, even though I have to fly hundreds of miles to be there. The ale is great and the staff and customers are so friendly.

User

Great little pub for a drink with friends. It's very cosy so you also get to chat with other people too. It's run by the friendliest people and serves a really good, ever changing, selection of locally brewed ales and ciders. I particularly like the lime, chilli and ginger bottled IPA.

User

Good beers and lots of choice. It's a small, simple place with no music and no nonsense. Friendly service.

User

Friday after work at the hook is the best part of the week! Great atmosphere and yummy citrus pale ales :) Every week I have a new favourite! :) #lovethehook

User

Awesome place. One of the best places to visit in town. 5* doesn't even give it justice. Awesome atmosphere amazing beer and fab service. An absolute must try!!!

User

As one of those strange northern drinkers who likes a nice creamy head on a pint, this pub sells some of the best flat beer this side of Sheffield. Cheers guy. See you at Christmas

User

An excellent micro pub. Very friendly with a great selection of top notch beers.

User

A real gem. Brilliant business idea backed up with fantastic beers, gravity real ales, keg and bottles. Intimate venue, with high churn of drinkers, given the ABVs not a surprise. Different from other great beer venues (The Guide Dog, The Dolphin, The Hop Inn, The Junction, The South Western and The Rockstone). Doggy friendly.

User

A lovely place to chill and sip a brew. Go early for a good seat as it fills up really quickly. Friendly informed staff. A must for anyone who loves a decent beer.

User

A fantastic real ale micro-pub. Lots of choice of good beers. A very friendly atmosphere - you will soon be chatting to strangers and the staff are lovely too.

User

A fantastic Micropub with bags of character and a welcoming atmosphere. What makes this worth the visit is the Ales from further afield. Expect to still see stock from The Bowman, Flack manor and other "locals" but also some gems from out of area. Well worth the taxi over from the other side of town, i'll be returning this evening!

User

Pretty special place. A fine selection of ales served by a couple of lads who yearn for a sophisticated hipster backwater. You already know the ale is grand. The premises is only let down by the angsty neighbours - the Bitterne Balti who recently constructed a very definite boundary to prevent the cross fertilisation between the two establishments. Beer / curry? Only here is a match not made in heaven.
