About The Fighting Cocks Pub
Tim & Kay Eyre and staff welcome drinkers and diners to a traditional Forest pub where 'homemade' means made on the premises.
Reviews
toilets are now in use again. Open as usual.
Due to circumstances beyond our control we are unable to use our toilet facilities at this time. We are currently working on the issue.
New StarSlush available to buy at the bar £2.50 a cup! Perfect for a heatwave 😎 #summer #newforest #heatwave #cooldown #kids
Want to hide away from the World Cup? Why not come visit us for lunch or dinner where we promise there will be no football playing anywhere on the premises 👍 call us on 01425 652462 to reserve a table, or come enjoy our sunny beer garden and patio area where no booking is required.
Well, I have spent the last half hour looking at some somewhat mixed reviews about this fine establishment, I appreciate everyone is different, but for us this is a little gem of a place, just 1 mile from where we are staying, allows us to dine with our dog, in a relaxed atmosphere, busy yes, but the food is worth the wait, only complaint....it's not closer to where we are staying, but it's not going to move for us, so we will be making this journey quite a few times over the next 2 weeks
We booked at only 2 hours notice for 12 of us(+2 babies) and had great service. Lots to choose from & good prices. We enjoyed it so much, it was a unanimous choice for our last night meal out too(which once again was arranged at short notice). Very family friendly establishment & good value for money
This place is incredible, the food is gorgeous.i had the steak and real ale pie and my god it was the best pie I have ever eaten in my life, just wished I lived closer because I would be there ever Sunday 😋
Pasted the pub on a few occasions when driving through the New Forest so this time thought we would drop in for a bite to eat, we stopped off at a busy time of the day so wasn't expecting food in 5 minutes. I can say that I had one of the best pub lunches I have had in years. Great food, great beers and wonderful staff. Will defenatly be popping in again to enjoy the atmosphere and food soon.
Not local to the area, we stopped at The Fighting Cocks Pub at Fordingbridge for an anniversary meal while the in-laws looked after the kids and we had a lovely meal! A nice, welcoming pub with plenty of character and friendly staff. There were so many yummy things to choose from it was hard to decide, but our lamb shanks were delicious! Would revisit if in the area again.
Lovely friendly pub, dogs welcome in the bar and smaller dining areas. Busy but the meals were worth the wait, huge portions of home cooked food and very tasty.
A lovely young member of staff called George cleared a table for us, wiped it down and brought our dog a fresh bowl of water even though he had officially knocked off and was waiting to dine with his family, a real credit to the place.
Will definitely be returning soon... 5 *
Just stopped off for a pint whilst walking yesterday, lovely real ales on draft and they really know how to keep ale well will be back again today for food and maybe another beer or two
Just had the best pub meal in ages. Gammon was lovely, glad I opted for the small portion as didn't quite manage all of that ! Other half had a full rack of ribs and to say it was a massive portion would be an understatement! Top that off with a lovely friendly welcome and great service and it's definitely a 5 star experience and the donkey that didn't want us to leave was a chuckle on the way out
Great pub. Food is outstanding and service is always great. A favourite for me and my wife.
Great pub on skirts of new forest, good sized portions cooked meals, baguettes very tasty, very good choice of drinks alcoholic / non alcoholic and during spring/summer new forest donkeys/horses tend to gather here. Children's area/play frame's, benches outside to enjoy scenery. Recommend highly. Love stopping off here every couple months when I'm down here.
Visited today, an extremely busy but lovely venue. Enjoyed the food and drink selection. Only one faux pas, barely worth mentioning. Great day, thank you.
Impulse stop enroute to weekend break and we made right choice. Very warm friendly welcome and great homecooked food. Big portions to. Overall very happy.
Great food as normal. Visit the pub only when we are down that way. Tim is always very welcoming and his food has always been very nice....I would recommend
Great evening lovely food and banter with staff spotted dick particularly yummy recommend a visit we will deffo return xx
Had to wait over an hour because they were very busy not a real problem but my burger and chips arrived bearly warm did not come close to melting cheese.shame as would have liked to go again to try there huge menu but will try somewhere else
Came last night for our second visit and was a little disappointed! Out 1st visit was amazing so traveled 40 minutes to expect the same! The kids meal looked like they were thrown on the plate and the pizza was rock hard! My mash potato was obviously the frozen mash and was rubbery . The gravy was lumpy and watery! The lamp stake was lovely put completely let down with the rest of food on my plate ! What's happened??? Shame as you have a beautiful pub set in beautiful country side but will think twice about traveling so far again!
Initial bar service was excellent, this was soon let down by the young lady serving the food. She had not only never heard the term 'service with a smile', she was damn right miserable and it appeared that trying to remember what the two dishes were in her hand was beyond her capability. The food was sub standard and the portion sizes varied massively, all in all we were thoroughly disappointing.
I normally love going to this pub and as a forester I love the atmosphere in their but tonight I went for a meal and I had the giant Yorkshire pudding with sausages and mash and when I received my meal I cut into my sausage that was not cooked, I ate what I could and said to the waitress about it and he just said sorry, I was really disappointed with the attitude towards the problem
Unfortunately after our visit yesterday our entire party of 8 would never return. The food was quite possibly the worst we have had in a very VERY long time. I believe your "cooked to order" should really state "microwaved to death to order".
In particular the mash potatoes (the worst I have ever tasted), the cheese was off (our friend left her cheese... she NEVER leaves cheese). Out of our party of 8 only 1 dish was ok (and I say that loosely) and that was nachos, and let's be honest, it's hard to get nachos wrong.
Prices (extremely high for the area) do not reflect the state of the food. Head on up to the George in fordingbridge or the Compasses just outside the town both amazing pubs, amazing service and amazing food. For a lot less money!!
However.... I must say 1 member of staff was lovely, knew her gin and was a lovely lady.
