About The Gloucester Old Spot - Bristol

Blending the hip and the wholesome – a vibrant British pub where everyone is made to feel like a local

The Gloucester Old Spot - Bristol Description

We’re an independent family-run pub on Kellaway Avenue in North Bristol, serving delicious locally-sourced food and a wide selection of drinks from morning until night every day.
Gloucester Old Spot pigs are synonymous with the South West and renowned for producing the highest quality pork. We are also proud to have been reared in the South West and obsessed with simple food that’s done well, so the Old Spot pig seemed the perfect inspiration for us. Nestled only a short walk away from Bristol’s famously independent Gloucester Road, this was also testament to a part of the city that we’re extremely proud and fond of.
The pub has been a labour of love for us and we opened our doors in September 2014. From the sausages to the lamp fittings, everything at the Old Spot has been locally sourced. Car-boot sales in Frome, Bristol’s friendliest eBay sellers, antique shops in Bath, benches crafted in Midford, grocers in Bishop Sutton and meat from Winterbourne have all contributed to what we now call home.
We wanted to make The Old Spot a fun, enjoyable, unpretentious family-friendly pub for the local Bristol community where you could get great service, a satisfying pint, enjoy a delicious burger, share some top-notch local mezze with friends or tuck into a big breakfast in the best garden in the world. We think we’ve cracked it, and we hope you do too.

We often get asked where we bought our beautiful light fittings from 💡 They were handmade in Bath by Amy’s Dad using plumbing parts and mounted on bits of teak wood which were from the picnic tables inherited from The Kellaway (if you can remember that far back) Original and inexpensive

Weather like this calls for a juicy homemade burger 🍔 and a pint 🍺

Sneaky peek at our new signage! ⚡️
Due to the weather 🌧 the new signage will now be installed next week.
The pub may not have a name at the moment but fear not we are open as usual.

User

Summer holiday fun.....👭 Quite possibly the best family friendly pub in Bristol. We’ve got colouring sheets / free babychinos / an enclosed garden / a playhouse / books / kids menu served 9am-9pm and we’ve even got free baby wipes and nappy bags if you’ve forgotten yours

QUIZ NIGHT this evening with this legend! Jon aka Mr C will be on the mic from 8pm 🎙

Monday’s at the Old Spot are all about organising the busy week ahead.. after a bacon & egg butty and a cuppa of course!

You can’t beat a gin & tonic in this weather ☀️ This is Psychopomp gin (made in Bristol) with pink peppercorns, coriander and fever tree tonic 😝

We ❤️ yorkies

Today we hosted the lovely Lene’s baby shower on our terrace. Did you know we book out our covered terrace area for smaller functions? It’s a great space and won’t cost you a penny to hire

Painting has begun here at The Old Spot....🙌🏼 We are super excited to be changing the exterior of the pub and getting rid of that green paint

Yet again lovely meals again tonight, my boys loved the squid in sea salt big thumbs up from them.

User

We had a fab lunch last Sunday, sitting in the pub garden in the sunshine. The staff were really friendly, the service was excellent and the food was absolutely delicious (I had the nut roast, my husband had roast beef, and the kids had roast chicken). The pub has a great vibe, we will definitely be back again soon. Thank you!

User

We go to the Old Spot every weekend for either breakfast or lunch and absolutely love it. The staff are really friendly and great with kids. The kids can run about without anyone being judgemental and play with all the other children and the food is always really good. I really like the Eggspagnol and the desserts. Great coffees too plus they allow me to bring my own oatmilk and heat it up for my coffees.

Can't fault the place. Sometimes I reckon they may be victims of their own success as it's a big place and gets busy on a sunny weekend so I understand sometimes the food may take a while longer. Just chill and have a nice drink, read the paper and munch on some nuts if so :-)

User

Visited today with a few others and have to say the food was awesome, staff super friendly, really couldn’t fault it at all, would highly recommend to any of my friends and 100% will be visiting again

User

Thanks for an amazing works do tonight, I had the most amazing steak with peppercorn sauce I have ever had, thanks chef. The waiter was awesome! Thanks from a group of young at heart ladies Xxxxx

User

Never been before but wanted to try somewhere different. The food was delicious..the best Sunday roast we have had for a long time! Friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend and will be trying the sister pub in Downed very soon

User

I was absolutely delighted at the food and service at the Gloucester Old Spot last night for my daughter's 18th birthday meal. I have a nut allergy and am anxious about eating out but I couldn't have been better cared for or made to feel more comfortable and reassured. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will most definitely be back for more. Huge thanks to you all for a wonderful evening.

Had great Sunday lunch with friends. Tasty food, good beer, friendly staff, and sunshine as a bonus!

First time there. Lovely little beer garden out the back. Very family friendly, relaxed with great staff and really nice food. We'll certainly be going back again.

User

Excellent. Great staff, great food and a lovely atmosphere. Awesome beer garden too. My wife and daughter had lovely sandwiches, and my quesadilla was scrumptious (photo in comments).

User

Excellent evening. Family night out so table for twelve. Everyone happy with their meal (cod loin was to die for) and the service was brilliant. Highly recommend.

One of the few places that you can get good service good food and a lovely atmosphere. Thank you for making our evening so special.

Always a delight!

We fancied just popping out for a bite to eat and combining it with dog walk so where better to head than The Gloucester Old Spot. Reassuringly busy yet relaxed enough to bring the dog and feel at home. We had a burger craving so an Old Spot Cheese Burger (w Jalapeños) and Cajun Chicken & Chorizo Burger later, we were very happy customers! Credit to the chefs, they deliver consistently good quality food and really enjoyed the homemade raspberry lemonade too!

User

My first time at The Old Spot - But it won’t be the last!

Great food and drink, good service, reasonable money.

Look forward to going there again soon. db

User

Had a great Christmas get together here yesterday. We were a big group of over 20 including some kids. Food all came out together and we were all happy with our meals. Great place for kids as well as plenty of space for them to run around in garden. Big thumbs up 👍

User

I was really disappointed as I've had lots of people tell me how great the Sunday roast is. We came here on an if chance without a booking and managed to get a table in the bar area, which we were grateful of. We ordered at the bar and then sat and waited for our food. After about 45 mins our dinners came out. The meat was perfectly cooked to my liking as in nice and rare but unfortunately it was just one slice of wafer thin meat which had very little taste was served inside a Yorkshire pudding. The roast potatoes, well potato actually as it was just one cut in half was undercooked and raw in the middle. The veg all though served nice and crunchy was all served on top of red cabbage that was very heavily spiced with either juniper or star anise or some other spice that overpowered everything. We also had a strange little breadcrumbed ball on our plate which we had no idea what was. (No flavour). I'm sure we just had an off day as the reviews and recommendations don't seem to be consistent with our experience but I can only describe how I found!! Sorry glos old spot, I'll give you another go soon and if improved I'll up my rating!!

We went here on Saturday with 4 friends. Our booking was at 7.30 as they told us they had a large party at 8. When we arrived we were given a list of things which were either not available or short and it was obvious they did not have enough waiting staff. Our waitress hurriedly asked for our drinks order but rushed off without completing it, and it was 20 minutes before we even ordered our starter. Then the large party of about 20 arrived, the noise was dreadful. Our starters came after 30 minutes, during which the waitresses were rushing between tables. It was after 9pm when our mains finally arrived. During this time, the large party had already been given theirs, which they had clearly pre ordered. My meal (tuna steak) was really nice, but my companions steak was fatty, a duck meal really salty. Overall very disappointing. The staff member we spoke to readily confirmed the service was poor, the best they could do was offer free coffees. Not a great response to a bill of £150

Ordered my food at same time as my friend who ordered for his family and his food came out 20 minutes before they attempted my family’s food, a medium steak, cheeseburger meal and a cheese burger kids meal! got a well done steak, a kids cheeseburger meal and no cheese burger meal, asked waiting staff who were friendly and went out there way to apologise but then the second steak came out bleeding everywhere but at least they remembered the cheese burger for the girlfriend this time but that was that I gave up on giving the so called chef a chance and went to Tesco and got a sandwich, really disappointed with the food!
