Went for the first time one Sunday, it is a lovely pub with great atmosphere. The food was excellent, most of us had fish and chips (which were the best I have tasted for some time!) and some had burger and chips which was enjoyed just as much. Had to wait abit for the food but it was well worth the wait , it was excellent service from the staff too. Enjoyed it so much will want to go again!

User

We went for dinner last night, 3 ladies who had a lot of catching up to do. Food was superb & staff very friendly & understanding when we hadn't even looked at the menu 30 minutes after sitting down! :-)

User

Very relaxing weekend at this quaint country pub. Lovely atmosphere, good food and friendly people. Very dog friendly and in a great location. Many thanks Tom & Melissa.

User

Taken there for Valentines Night. Beautiful setting with just enough people. Food and Drink was fabulous , and staff couldn’t be more helpful. Would highly recommend

Should you need to escape a winter afternoon in Highclere The Yew Tree Inn, offers respite from the cold. While there Ollie Callaghan has a knack for finding a bottle to suit any occasion and the 2007 Chateau Pontet-Canet was well matched with rich creamy mushroom soup and crusty bread.

If the hours fade to sunset, we can highly recommend the cosy Chestnut room that’s a short climb above the bar. The rooms are well appointed with feather down duvets, soft linen and very clean private bathrooms. In room amenities are more refined than those found some five star hotels.

There’s no need to rush to breakfast the following morning as the hours are from (a relaxed) 8am onwards. Though should you need to head to Heathrow terminal 3 departure lounge for an early morning flight, Ms Jaye Newbrook can accommodate with Dorset Muesli’s, fruits, nuts and juices.

We enjoyed our brief stay, loved the restaurant cuisine and will return again later this year.

Thanks,

Mrs. and Mr. Wilson

My husband booked a 2 night stay here for my birthday as I had mentioned that I would like to visit Highclere castle & The Yew Tree is listed on their website. We loved it from the moment we arrived. Our room was not quite ready so we sat with drinks & the papers whilst watching delicious looking food being served. We had already decided we would eat in the pub on both nights of our stay and we were not disappointed. The food is excellent in both choice & quality. Portion sizes were great, something for everyone. Our room was very comfortable and cosy. The best thing for us was that this is a small intimate pub where we really felt at home. We will definately be back again some day.

My daughter has just moved here and found this excellent place. She took us for Sunday lunch and we sat outside in the garden. What a very friendly atmosphere . Something went wrong with the ordering machine so we were overlooked. It is always the way things are handled that puts it right again. Melissa was lovely and when the food came it was excellent. Lovely selection of wines also. Second visit and will certainly make it a regular place to eat.

User

Lovely meal with friendly service. We’ll definitely be going back.

User

Lovely country pub situated in a beautiful area - brilliant for walks. The food was delicious (I highly recommend the steak and the burger) and served in good time. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The room was lovely, very clean and tidy. We received complimentary champagne upon arrival which was extremely thoughtful.

Overall, a very pleasant stay in a lovely country pub which has a great atmosphere, gorgeous food and cosy rooms - perfect for a weekend away! I definitely recommend this place and will be visiting again!

User

Just returned form an overnight stay and if you are a dog owner who loves your dog then this is the place for you!

So Dog Friendly as your dog can go anywhere and everywhere with you!

Such a lovely place, staff so welcoming and friendly, rooms are of lovely decor, pub is so quaint - A traditional english inn and the food is delicious!

Finally found a real dog friendly place where you can actually enjoy dinner in the main part of the restaurant, not pushed in a corner of the room, with your dog not stuck in the bedroom on his own!

Highly recommend and will definitely be returning soon!

User

Had an amazing evening here staying 1 night over the May Bank Holiday weekend (staying Sunday night). The staff and owners are so welcoming and friendly, the room was lovely, modern and comfortable and the food was incredible! So many positives to say about The Yew Tree, we will certainly recommend to friends and hope to stay here again.

User

Called in at the weekend for Sunday lunch, excellent food, super friendly and helpful staff. Would thoroughly recommend and will visit again soon.

User

Arrived a little late on the day without a reservation. We were made very welcome by the friendly staff. Excellent food and great service

User

Amazing Food with an even more amazing team of staff who are so polite, friendly and willing to please. I'd recommend this place to anyone. I will definitely be coming back again and again :))

A friend booked a table for lunch today on the way to visit the nearby Hiclere Castle - set to Downton Abbey. What a fantastic surprise!

Our party of four was made up of propper foodies who all have very high expectations and none of us were in any way disappointed - we were lucy enough to sit outside on a beautifully sunny day and soak up the lovely, quaint atmosphere.

This place is obviously popular with the tourists but even the coach load of Americans who visited as part of their tour, didn't detract from this lovely experience.

We booked through Book a Table and were only able to book certain times so the restaurant had obviously got their timings bang on the money as our lunches came out promptly even though they were busy - so many places don't get this right. Hats off.

The pub itself is beautiful and perfectly restored and decorated. It's quirky and very well done with exceptional attention to detail.

The menu has a great range of locally sourced specials and all was presented beautifully, I opted for the local ale battered fish and chips, the perfect size for lunch. My only observation would be that the mushy peas could have a little seasoning and the addition of a mint sprig or two would have been most welcome but that's just my preference.

Our guests enjoyed the Caesar Salad, Soup of the day and Black Pudding & Beachwood Scotch Egg (I have to admit I had a little food envy with the Scotch Egg!)

The staff were without exception very polite and friendly, our young waitress was happy to share her local knowledge with us. This place is a hidden gem and a must try!

Will definitely return.

User

Great food, great service, if a little pricey - hence the four stars... would definitely go back :)

User

Beautiful little pub , lovely setting to eat .Staff were friendly and attentive .

I had asparagus as a starter with parma ham and crispy porched egg , which was lovely .Sirloin steak medium , a cooked a tiny bit rare for me and hand cut chips as a main , had to ask for the accompanying sauce a few minutes later , meal was a bit bland for me , I would have liked veg or salad garnish instead of the whole garlic on side of the plate , maybe served with peas would have been nice . Creme brûlée was to die for , best I’ve ever had .

I would go back but probably try a different main .

User

Well, I regularly call in to the Yew Tree as it is conveniently on a route I regularly travel. However, two weeks ago, I called in early on a Wednesday for a snack. I reported to the duty staff that the toilets would not flush and that the sink had not emptied after the previous customer had used it. The woman told me it would be fixed. I continued my journey. The following Monday I called in again on my return journey. Guess what! The toilets would not flush and the sink would nit empty. I attempted to tell the woman on the bar but she ignored me as there was a group of extremely noisy women taking her attention. I gave up and left. Approaching my car, I heard another woman say "Those toilets were awful"! I rest my case. Sad really as we usually enjoy our visits here, as do lots of our friends who I have recommended it to.

User

When're with my family of 1 hour to get our main & over an hour to get our pudding! No changing facility for my baby & toilet didn't flush! Not impressed for the amount we paid. Plenty of staff around bar but service for food very slow. I'd advise not to go with baby's/toddlers!
