The Plume Of Feathers Inn

Lovely inn with friendly staff and an excellent menu (though I only had room for the dessert specials rather than the mains). The room I stayed in was large and airy, with room for a hallway, sofa and coffee table. The en suite shower room was a decent size with a large shower.

The Plume of Feathers is a pub with food, accommodation and camping right in the middle of Dartmoor.

So we stayed here after searching for a bunkhouse about 10 years ago and it initially appealed as it was part of a pub... nothing better after a hard days hiking than a few beers and some food. if we come to Dartmoor we almost always stay here - it hasn't changed much in those 10 years - and that's a good thing!

We spent the day walking on Dartmoor in the cold and rain - by the time we got to the Plume of feathers we were soaked. We went into the bar which was really busy (about 2pm on a Sat afternoon) and were shown up to our bunks by a member of staff we had a room to ourselves which had 2 bunks (4 beds in) - the rooms were small but cosy and there was some bedding.

Luckily there was a communal bathroom at the end of the hall with a couple of showers. To be fair the showers have seen better days - but they worked and had hot water.. that's all we wanted.

We retreated to the bar where the staff reserved us a table - we had some food - the food is way above standard pub fair and was really good, the portions were large and it was hot and tasty and the desserts were huge too. The bar was busy - a mixture of locals and hikers - but we had a great evening.

In the morning we had breakfast (which if you pre-book is a bit cheaper) which was a full English and again was prepared well.

All in all - this is no hotel but for hikers the bunkhouse is perfect (for the price) and for everyone else if you find yourself in Princetown - definitely pop in and check out the food. I think they do have a B&B option for anyone who wants a higher level of accommodation.

Just had the bacon double cheeseburger here and was tempted to leave my missus for it... one of the best burgers I've had for a while! Simon behind the bar is an absolute arch bishop of Banterbury! highly recommended a visit

Not very good food on the day we went which was not like this the hat time we went. Starters was king prawns and salmon. King prawns and small prawns were warm like they had just been thawed out in the microwave. Not at all nice then my wife had greasy thin chips with her steak and the pepper sauce was thin and watery. My ploughman's was ok and nothing to write home about. It was just a very ordinary ploughman's.

Beautiful food. Very friendly and courteous staff. Visit at least 3 times a year and is always the same. Always busy, lovely childrens play area, and very roomy outside eating space.

So the lads an I decided to have a bit of fun down in Dartmoor and go for a nice hike across the moors. We had though about camping but I wasn't really keen.. while searching for some cheap B&B's I found a website called Bunkr.co.uk which showed there were a few bunkhouses in Princetown, one at the Plume of feathers. I called to book and booked a room with four bunks. When we arrived the bunkhouse was nice and cheap and perfect for 4 lads to kip in after a hike.. but the big bonus is the attached pub. Great beers, great atmosphere and the food is really good.. nice home style hearty food. This place is a gem

Camping in June, only negative points were the weather that obviously can't be helped and the site is not amazingly flat, but then they are more I prepared for 2 man tents and not the city we erected. Friendly and helpful staff and the toilet/shower block were always clean. Breakfast was really good. Will definitely stay again (hopefully when it's not raining so hard) as there are some really nice walks from the site.

Pub on Dartmoor with a campsite to the rear. Nice, try it. Good food. Friendly staff. Walk out onto the Moor at the back, and be amazed.

Have been here quite a few times after a walk on the moor. Usually just for a quick pint. Today I fancied a quick snack too. Opted for a Pasty, which came with chips and side salad. No option / discount for having the Pasty on its own. Therefore ended up paying best part of £6 for a Pasty. Value for money?

Nice little pub on the edge of Dartmoor. Can get busy for food so may need to book in advance on a Sunday. Camping and showers. Play park is a bit dilapidated.

I've been here a few times recently as I've been walking a lot on the moors. In fact I have made sure to start in Princetown so I can come back for a pint in the Plume afterwards. The staff are really friendly and the service when I've been there for food has been very swift. Lots of walkers and locals stop by, they are allowed to bring their dogs to the bar, a really nice place. Thoroughly nice place and I'll be going back many times.
