We have recently moved to the area and paid our first visit to The Seagate for lunch yesterday. The food was absolutely delicious, the staff very friendly, welcoming and efficient and we were very happy with our free 'locals' first drink! Will definitely be returning often.

We have often been to this lovely pub for drinks and food and have always enjoyed, but tonight we had service above and beyond. A lovely chap who works at the front of house quickly found us a table (as we had a toddler in a buggy and there weren’t many left). He then brought us menus and asked if we would like a high chair. He made an extra effort to make sure we were comfortable. We had only planned to have a drink and check out the menu, but with the excellent service couldn’t say no. We ordered our food as were so impressed with the menu and service. He kindly brought over some pencils, a colouring book and plastic spades for our little girl to play with, and made the effort to ask if there was anything else which we needed. The bar staff were very friendly and welcoming too. Our little girl had the pitta pizza from the children menu which (unlike most places) was edible upon arrival, rather than being piping hot which usually causes tantrums while it cools, but she was able to tuck in straight away! Our linguini and nachos were delicious too. We never felt rushed to leave the table, which is so nice when you have a toddler who eats at the pace of a snail! The whole experience was lovely, and I would highly recommend this pub to families. Making people with children feel welcome is so easy, yet so little establishments make the effort. We really appreciate how much was done to ensure that we had a lovely dinner - thank you!

We had a lovely lunch here today. We sat out in the sunshine and enjoyed wonderful food, great service and a jolly atmosphere. I would be more than happy to recommend this establishment.

The winter special offer makes this a great place to stay. Check it out. Would thoroughly recommend this place winter or summer. Breakfast beautifully cooked. Location great.

Such a great Easter Sunday meal today. The roast was absolutely fabulous, the mint chocolate brownie to die for. Service was superb. Thank you.

Stayed for our sixth time at The Seagate with the family , three generations, and two dogs this time for birthday celebrations.

Fabulous breakfasts followed by some exploring with the dogs and back again for dinner. All Staff very friendly and accommodating and couldn't do more to make our stay enjoyable.

Recently had two nights here , having two dogs was no issue and they were made to feel as welcome as us , staff friendly and efficient, lovely room and great food , breakfast in particular was well cooked and presented ,we'll be back

Lovely place to visit and the food is out if this world. The staff are so helpful in this dog friendly place.

Just spent 4 nights, and then extended by another night at The Seagate - Quay Suites on a winter deal. Lovely large rooms, great facilities and fantastic views, extremely relaxing place with fantastic and friendly staff. We will be back. What made it even better we totally missed the majority of the snow both at home and here in Appledore.

Just back from a two night stay( kid free whoop) will and I had a great time, the room was fab ( number 5) and the food was delicious. Everyone was so friendly especially the two lovely ladies that work do hard in getting the rooms ready for the guests, I enjoyed our little chats, we will definitely be back, thanks jan and phill x

Booked a two night B&B deal at this hotel as we love North Devon and this seemed a good deal.

Checked in was easy and we had double room in main building and they were happy for dog to stay too. Room was clean and tidy and looked over estuary so very happy with it.

Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice and piping hot cooked breakfast, this set us up for our long beach walks with the pooch.

We are at the pub both nights and the menu was a good mixture of the standard fayre and also lots of specials, accompanied by good beer, cider and wine we had a great time.

The best point about this place is the fact they are so dog friendly so dog was able to sit with us whilst we had breakfast and our evening meals. To be fair he was so tired from running along beach he fell asleep under table so was no bother.

We will definitely stay again especially if they do a special offer for accommodation.

Absolutely wonderful stay! Wow factor room and bathroom. Deep bath and separate huge shower. Huge bed too and fabulous views over estuary, so chilled here! The Pub serves excellent food too, what more you ask for!

A wonderful experience. We regard Appledore as a magical place, our experience at the Seagate didn’t change that sentiment.

To be perfectly honest if this review was purely about the food I would be giving it a 5! I asked for the gammon steak but could they swap the chips for some green veg and got just that. My wife had the orange curd cheesecake and was bowled over by it! Delicious!



To be truthful the thing that lets the Seagate down is the attitude of the guys behind the bar.



It almost seems like everything is too much trouble for them, unless you already know them! We ordered drinks and it seemed like a real bother to serve us, but when we were leaving they were serving some ladies that they were obviously familiar with and it was like they were different people.



While our main course appeared quickly it was a different story with my wife's dessert. I ordered my wife's cheesecake, asking if she could have ice cream instead of whipped cream, and a coffee at the same time. While I had my coffee immediately, we waited for nearly 20 minutes before querying where the cheesecake order was. The guy behind the bar said he would find out where it was. When he returned rather than let us know he just went back behind the bar. When it arrived it was obvious it had only just been prepared and to top it all there was whipped cream and not the ice cream we had requested. When the correct order arrived we did get an apology from the waitress but by then our experience had been tainted.

Had a meal here Sunday and couldn't fault it, service was excellent to. Returned yesterday and ordered two burgers, both came out with other food, one was cooked right through unfortunately the other one was red raw in the middle. Returned the burger, got another one about two minutes later and it still wasn't cooked right through. To save my mother from food poisoning I asked for my money back, no issues with that, an apology but we were really looking forward to spending our last night in Devon there on Friday but sadly your chef let you down, twice..... �

Went there and ordered meals for 4 people sat waiting for 35 minutes before I asked when it will come, when it came so disappointed everything was dry , when asked if everything okay we explained what it was like just got a response that he couldn't care less and walked away

I really wanted to like The Seagate we had been in for a drink the night before ,I was impressed with the girls cleaning down the bar and pumps so decided to book a table for the next night. Unfortunately it was such a let down, the kitchen was really busy with orders and our food took 50 mins to come out. Now if we had been informed of the delay when we ordered then it would not have been so bad but we weren’t any apologise given were not given with heart just routine. The food was not impressive the fries were tepid and onion rings absolutely cremated. Was expecting so much more and was left feeling so disappointed �

Food is fine and most of the staff are very friendly. However the hotel side is pure greed. Too many rooms and no care for the guests in relation to parking or being able to eat dinner. Only 10 car spaces and 17 rooms so it's 50/50 If you can park, that's assuming they check who is even in the car park! £25 fine because of this means we won't be back and won't be recommending.
