About Toads At The Little Theatre

The Little Theatre is home to Toads Theatre Company. The Little Theatre promises to be a great night out with something to entertain everyone.

Toads At The Little Theatre Description

TOADS formed in 1944 as part of Torbay Operatic Society. We took up residence in the Little Theatre in 1988. In 2002 TOADS performed their 100th production at the Little Theatre.

It's important to us to make drama accessible to everyone. Right from the very start, we thought of an appreciation of drama and the cultural shaping of leisure activity as vital aspects of our project. Over time, we've gained many friends and partners who help us achieve this objective.

We're a friendly team who look forward to interest across the generations and cultures. So whatever your age or background, do drop in and meet us.

It's been a while since we shared some rehearsal pictures with you. So here are a few from Over My Dead Body. Some of the cast may appear to be asleep but in fact there is so much excitement it's been difficult to share photos with you without giving the plot away. You better come and see if for yourself!

Season's Greetings - 17 December to 22 December (performances 7.30pm - 22 December 2.30pm matinee and 7.30pm) By Alan Ayckbourn, Directed by Alec Stokes (A TOADS season production)
... In what is considered to be Ayckbourn’s funniest play, half a dozen friends and family are celebrating Christmas with Neville and Brenda; but peace and goodwill don’t last long as squabbles break out and with too much alcohol and some annoying mechanical toys it’s a recipe for a truly dysfunctional Christmas!

Over My Dead Body - 8 October to 13 October (performances 7.30pm - 13 October 2.30pm matinee and 7.30pm) By Michael Sutton and Anthony Fingleton Suggested by Robert L Fish's novel The Murder League Directed by Anna Reynolds... (A TOADS season production)
In the reading room of The Murder League, a crime writers’ literary club, three elderly British mystery writers are bemoaning the fact that their style of writing has dwindled in popularity and sales, and have resigned themselves to living out their lives reminiscing about ‘the good old days’. Stung by the words of a younger member, belittling their now outdated style of writing, they hypothesize about what would happen if a real life murder be committed as in their books. They resolve to turn their hypothesis into reality with unforeseen results!

One of the most challenging things in theatre is to create farce without it looking farcical. Well, you lovely people, you did it perfectly. Timing, delivery, expression, pregnant pauses....it had it all. Everyone deserves all the credit we mere audience members can muster. Bravo.

User
