Intergenerational Sports Day at Bethesda Care Home
A fun packed day intergenerational sports day recently took place with early years children, looked after by local childminders, and residents of the Bethesda Care Home in Torquay.
Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Cordelia Law, said: “This was a great day and is a great example of the wonderful things that can happen when you bring young children and older adults together.
... “Over the last two years, our Torbay Early Years Advisory Team has encouraged and supported residential care homes and nursing homes in Torbay to engage in developing an intergenerational approach.
“The benefits of intergenerational learning are far-reaching, with research evidencing the positive impact that these programmes have on children, older adults, and the wider community.”
Linda Prain, Wellbeing Assistant, from Bethesda Christadelphian Care Home, who helped organised the event, said: “It was a fantastic day with participants ranging from one to 102 years old!
“The process of having fun and making friends seemed far more important than the competition itself. However, when the children were paired up with the residents to take part in the walking race, the children certainly encouraged the residents to go faster, with their walking frames, than they normally would.”
Having young children visit Bethesda Care Home has proved to be very popular with the residents and they are now planning to start a walking club with local childminders so that they can enjoy each other’s company. The residents will be driven to local places across the Bay, and the childminders and children will meet them there.
Over fifteen care homes across Torbay are now engaging in visits from early years providers. The providers bring children to the care home settings where they meet residents and undertake a range of activities together.

UPDATE - WINDY CORNER
Unfortunately the forecast wet weather for tonight means that the final stage of road resurfacing will now be delayed until Monday night. During this work temporary traffic lights will be in operation and traffic will be prevented from exiting Langdon Lane onto Dartmouth Road. There'll be a diversion route set up though Galmpton using the alternate exit at Manor Vale Road. Please expect delays during these works and allow extra time if you’re planning to travel through this area.
On a more positive note we’ve opened up the additional lane exiting Brixham so the benefits of the new junction are already underway.

⚠️ BRIXHAM ROAD ROADWORKS ⚠️ So we have an update on these works that we think you will like! 🥁 🥁 🥁
The new permanent traffic signals at the junction of Brixham Road and Yalberton Road have now been turned on and all lanes heading towards Tweenaway are open! 🎉 All lanes are also now open from Tweenaway to Sainsburys 🎉 but while they finish the pavement the inside lane from Sainsburys to Wilkins Drive will be closed 😕 . As the work gets finished this closure will be reduced and all works will be completed by the end of the month.

This time Princess Gardens, including Royal Terrace Gardens, and Babbacombe Downs have been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as some of the very best green spaces in the world.
This Award now also means that the Torquay Harbour and seafront area is the only place in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset to be awarded a Blue Flag for its beach, a Purple Flag for the evening and night-time economy around the Harbour and a Green Flag f...or its green space.
The Green Flag international award is a sign that these space boast the highest possible environmental standards, are beautifully maintained and have excellent visitor facilities.
Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive a Green Flag Award for Princess Gardens and Babbacombe Downs.
