About Waterside Scrapstore

An Aladdin’s cave of low cost recycled arts & crafts resources donated by local businesses.

Waterside Scrapstore Description

To a child a plastic tube can be a powerful spaceship, a cardboard box a skyscraper and a pile of foam or fabric offcuts the building blocks of something amazing. That's what we do.

We are a tiny Totton based charity providing an Aladdin’s cave of low cost recycled arts and crafts resources for the communities in which we operate. Our volunteers collect clean waste materials donated by local businesses and although we are open to everyone, our materials are mainly used for kids arts and crafts activities stimulating innovation and creativity at a young age, enhancing learning and play experiences at the same time as diverting waste from landfill.

Keep an eye out for Michelle and Sophia, little live projects with materials from around the house.

We're lucky to be online for ideas and communication, but spare a thought for those who aren't and start a chat window with them.

Have a go at this one.

Does anyone need art and craft materials?
We have a wonderful volunteer who has kindly offered to put sacks of crafty goodies together and do a zero contact delivery in the Eling area.
We will try and cover other areas if there is demand.
... Please e-mail watersidescraps@gmail.com for details, including your location and whether you are already a member.
Let's keep those little fingers busy 😊🥳😊

Can't get what you want at the supermarket? Shop differently. Shop entirely based on the creative potential of the packaging. 🤯🤩🤯Can't get what you want at the supermarket? Shop differently. Shop entirely based on the creative potential of the packaging. 🤯🤩🤯

The bad news is it of the way, let's stay positive and use this time.

User

Sadly, as a result of being unable to social distance in the shop, having high risk volunteers to protect and as we are not an essential service (I beg to differ😉!) we have no option but to close the shop until further notice.
We are all very sorry.
If the schools close and lots of you really really need materials please drop us an email and we'll see if we can sort something out safely. Afterall, like everyone we still have bills to pay and this will hit us very hard 😔

Corona Virus Update
We are constantly monitoring the NHS and Government advice and are trying to minimise disruption to our service however it is proving more and more difficult each day.
To all users of the shop. Please could we ask that you:
... 1 - Check our website regularly and before you travel for updates to our opening hours if you're planning a visit over the next few weeks.
2 – Help protect each other by using the hand washing facilities when you arrive at the shop.
3 – Follow NHS guidelines relating to containment and if you think you have the virus or any related symptoms, or may have been in contact with someone with them and need scraps, send a friend!
As a very small, unfunded and entirely volunteer run organisation, we have limited resilience in situations like this and despite our best efforts it has been impossible to flex enough to maintain continuity of service so there will be session closures.
We know this is inconvenient and can only apologise and request that you all continue to support us by spreading the word so that once we are back to full strength we can start sharing the mountains of beautiful stock we have with you all.
Until this blows over please try to read less news, play more and take care of each other.
Thank you for your understanding at this very unsettling time.
Katie and all the Volunteers at the Scrapstore.

Nothing new here, just a great way to remind kids about basic hygiene.

We are looking for several new volunteers to work in the shop. Would you be prepared to give up a minimum of 1.5hrs a month to help fuel smiles like this?
We need someone on Wednesdays from 1 - 2:30, but are also looking for cover on occasional other days.
A dream come true would be a few new people so we could extend our opening hours. There were 10 people in the shop at one point on Thursday 🤔😲🤔😲

Here's a great idea. Don't think there are enough clothes pegs in the world for the number of brushes you could make in the Scrapstore.

Come and stock up on amazing art and craft materials for a damp half term.

Not strictly play or craft related, but what an advert to fight single use plastics. This packet is 30 years old and looks as good as new(!?!). It was picked up at one of The Final Straw Solent's beach cleans. Check out their FB page for loads of great ideas and events to help reduce the impact of these products.

Opening a little late tomorrow due to volunteer availability. Should be open at 1:30pm rather than 1:00pm - apologies.Opening a little late tomorrow due to volunteer availability. Should be open at 1:30pm rather than 1:00pm - apologies.
