With our special event well and truly upon us there is no better time to purchase that special fish you have always wanted. With 15% off all our tropical fish there are big savings to be had on some of the more rarer hard to get species which tend to go a little heavy on our bank balances. Here is one example, arguably the baddest freshwater species on the planet, Hoplias aimara. We have 4 of these massively impressive fish in stock, each and everyone of them in impeccable co...ndition, we can guarantee you won’t find this species in better condition anywhere! Please note this is a serious fish, not for beginners, if you have no idea what one is then it’s probably not for you.
Sizes range from 20-23cm

These little guys are settling in well and exploring their new environment.
If you didn’t see the first post a little while ago these are NTT Dats which is an abbreviation for northern Thailand Tigerfish, scientific name Datnioides undecimradiatus.
This is a beautiful species which tends to be more stable regarding colour than its other close relatives.
... Great price these!

A short while ago we had a shipment of King Kong Parrots, amongst these were some rather expensive tri-coloured ones. At the time I did a video and to be fair they didn’t look that more impressive than a regular red and black or red and white ( 2 other varieties we got at the same time), certainly not enough to justify the huge price difference.
So the reason for this post is to show what a few weeks of settling in can make, personally I think they look stunning!

It's less than 2 weeks now until our Special Event Weekend, and as always there will be a discount on ALL livestock and dry goods in the store! :)

Over the past couple of years we have had numerous enquiries for Gar Pike of a decent size. Well here they are! we have 7 x 12” specimens available. Note! These are Florida Gars (Lepisosteus platyrhincus) “not” Alligator Gars ( Atractosteus spatula), a species now illegal to trade here in the UK that has the potential to grow to 10 feet plus. So if you’re looking for a sensible Gar that won’t grow to massive proportions that can live alongside Arowana, Stingray’s , Peacock B...ass, Datnioides etc then this is the one!
Florida Gars in most cases top out approx between 18-20” in captivity, they do however thicken up around the girth as the years roll by. I personally keep this species and have done many times in the past. A personal favourite due to its prehistoric appearance and somewhat peaceful disposition with most fish it doesn’t consider small enough to be a meal.
Florida Gars can be very variable regarding pattern, from quite plain to boldly marked like these beautiful examples we currently have in stock.
Price £195 ea
This is a great price taking into account the quality and size not to mention these days these fish are hard to come by.

Just recently we have had several enquiries regarding large pieces of bog wood we have in stock. This has prompted us to take a few pictures of some of the impressive bits on offer together with the prices attached to each piece. Please note these pieces are larger than they look, some are 36” plus in length. We also have a mountain of small to medium bits to rummage through. Our prices will be very hard to beat on our bog wood pieces, small to medium are priced at £4.50 a kilo and XL specimen pieces as already mentioned are all individually priced.

As the saying goes ...all good things have to come to an end! which was the case with our planted aquarium in the main shop. This tank was was expertly aquascaped by no other that the man himself Mr George Farmer at one of our annual special events 3 years ago, an event that we will be repeating once more at the end of the month on the 29th-30th of September (check our Facebook page for details) The good news is a very familiar figure at the shop here has taken a keen interes...t in planted aquariums during the past 3 years, this handsome fella is our very own Adam Orgil (pictured). Literally a few days ago he went to work stripping the old display down back to the bare bones before starting with a clean slate so to speak. I have taken a few pics of Adam in action to illustrate step by step just how achievable it can be to create such a beautiful aquarium and focal point within your own living room for anyone willing to give it a go. All the materials used in setting up this tank can be purchased at the shop plus Adam will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have regarding creating something similar yourself. With the various substrates, fertilisers and of course the choice of LED lighting available these days the once difficult to create planted aquarium is no more! you can do it!! As the weeks and months go by we will be adding more photos on this page which all being well will show the progression of the plants. Although Adam has aqua-scaped many nano aquaria in the past this is so far his biggest project, I personally think he’s made a sterling job of it... be nice to hear all your thoughts!
As always ....thank you for reading.😊

Well the weekend is upon us so I though I would post a few of the Plecs we currently have in stock to prompt you to perhaps make that journey to one of your favourite aquatic shops this weekend. Collectively known as Loricarriids, these are some of the most diverse Catfishes both in shape and patterns to come out of South America, jewels of the Amazon are words I personally use to describe them.
Here at Wharf we strive to supply a whole host of different species from around t...he globe. These Jewels of the Amazon are only a very small part of what we are about, the choice of species we stock not to mention a wealth of experience and knowledge is what we believe sets us apart.
Here are a few examples of the Pleco’s we have in stock.
Please contact the shop for prices on anything of interest to you on 01773 861255
Have a great weekend.
Thank you for reading.

In stock are these stunning thin bar Tigerfish, often referred to as the NTT Tiger which is an abbreviation of Northern Thailand Tiger, scientific name Datnioides undecimradiatus. This is a beautiful species which tends to remain stable in colour at all different stages of its life, this stability isn’t easily influenced by its environment or the other tank mates within its vicinity. We have a good number in stock, well over 20 pieces though they will sell fast at the very reasonable price of £35ea or 3 for £90.00

We’re going to be a little short staffed in our marine department today after 2pm.
The department will still be open and a member of staff from our tropical dept will be on hand to serve and fill water. If you require any detailed info regarding marines then the department will be back to normal from 9am Thursday.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

Here’s a fish that’s had a few names over the years, ie American Dat, Datnioides quadrifasciatus, Silver Dat, it was also once in the genus Coius, Datnioides polota being its current scientific name. Contrary to belief this species is found in both fresh and brackish habitats and from personal experience it does well in both water types, one of the largest I’ve ever heard of is kept by a good customer of ours, he’s grown it from a baby in fresh (if you’re reading this Sonny please feel free to join in). Here is a nice pair we have at present, these are a decent size approx 11-12cm and priced at a very reasonable £45ea or 2 for £80.00

User

In stock is this very nice group of Geophagus neambi. Please note these are adult fish.

Visited on a holiday from down south. This week. We were really impressed with the cleanliness of the tanks and store in general. Huge variety of stock. My husband was so impressed that despite being adamant we were just ‘having a look ‘ we walked out with 4 new additions to our tank. As we explained we had a long journey the staff took extra care to pack them up to allow for the long car journey as well as time.

I have been visiting this store for the last 6 months. It’s a 60 mile round trip but find it so worth while. I stumbled upon this store just looking for new aquatic shops to find something truly amazing. And while I agree if you have a pushchair or wheelchair it would be tricky to get round so suggest going at a quietly time if you need to . I have found the choice to be good the staff are always busy but be patient and they will always help. Over the time I have shopped there I have called for advice and products that I need and they are more than welcome to help. Couldn’t possibly rate this place any lower that what it deserves truly amazing.

I go to this store all the time, the staff are so helpful and knowlegable. What they don't know about fish isn't worth knowing. I can't recommend this store enough.

Fantastic shop that stocks species not seen in many lfs. The hour plus drive is well worth it for the quality and advice given regarding compatibility and care requirements! I’ve visited 3 times now, always coming away with great fish and already planning a trip again!

You should charge entry to the marine area - it’s better stocked than public aquaria!

Changing my review due to visiting again and being very impressed with the service and quality of stock. Great selection of fish and products. Had a Senegal bichir from wharf today and I am extremely impressed with the quality of the fish and the service I received. Very active healthy fish which I had a hard time trying to source from numerous retailers to find wharf had one in stock which they were kind enough to reserve for me. I was met by friendly staff as soon as I arrived who gave me a quick friendly and professional customer service. I was also given the feeding information from the member of staff when I asked which isnt normally given to me by other retailers. I would definitely recommend wharf after my experience today and will always use them in future.

Any fish tank is a big investment. Especially a marine one. The most important aspect of that is getting the right advice and support and this place has always done that.

There’s a reason it has an almost cult like following. Nice people. Know their stuff. I don’t shop anywhere else!!
