This is a city where music is our very heartbeat, and you used this to try and further your horrendous, heartless and hideous agenda for hatred and hostility. This is the biggest mistake you could have made.
This is the city that gave you socialism, the city that birthed the suffragette movement, this is the city that s...tood alongside Lincoln and went on strike for the abolition of the slave trade. This is the city which brought you the computer, split the atom and spearheaded the industrial revolution. This is the city that has given you The Smiths, The Hollies, The Roses, Joy Division, The Fall, Oasis, The Charlatans, James, The Happy Mondays, Bugzy Malone, Elbow, I Am Kloot, Mr Scruff, 808 State, Inspiral Carpets, The Seahorses, Badly Drawn Boy, John Cooper Clarke and The Courteeners. This city has birthed some of the greatest musicians, artists and writers the world has ever seen and what continues to be a shining light for creativity and culture on a global-scale. This is a city that works harder than anywhere else and parties even harder. This is a city that loves and lives life like no other.
We will grieve, we will mourn and we will remember those whose lives you stole with your wicked actions but we will never, never give way to your hate. Our hearts may be broken, but our spirit never will be.
This city is built on a proud multi-culturalism which forms the very fabric of our streets. This melting pot of races, creeds, faiths and ideologies has paved the way for a city teeming with culture, with integration and with love. The only thing that can divide this city is the colour of our football shirts, and when they stand together, no-one else stands a chance.
You may have killed our daughters, our sons, our families and our friends - you will never kill our spirit. We will not give in to your hate-filled rhetoric. We will not bow to your fear or to your horror-spreading barbarism.
