Access Space Description

Access Space has been the UK's longest running open access media lab and has recently undergone a transformation into a multi-use arts venue for music, creative workshops, exhibitions, events, and we even ran a Pixelache Network international digital arts festival in 2015.
In late 2016 we developed a second space, Access Space Labs, opposite the Sheffield Institute of Art on Fitzalan Square, to create a space for research and more experimental work. Look out for exciting events there in 2017.

At Access Space, you will find people interested in art, design, computers, electronics, music and more. Come and meet like minded people, share and develop skills or discover something new in our focused drop-in activities, series of workshops, exhibitions and events.

At Access Space we also offer space hire, and have opportunities for volunteering and hosting your own events or group meetings.

Access Space operates at a low cost with a low carbon-footprint using recycled donated computers and free, open source software. If you would like to donate laptops which we can re-use in our charitable and educational work please email office@access-space.org

You can join our Hackspace (http://access-space.org/hackspace /) and work on your own creative, enterprising and technical projects.

Alternatively, Thursdays are Laser days where you can talk to us about using and hiring our laser cutter and cnc router We offer free advice and will help you get the work you want created cost effectively. Talk to us about a quote.

We offer help and advice about repairing repairing & recycling computers, consumer electronics, and just about anything else, every Wednesday 11am-5pm, for free. Email john@access-space.org if you have something specific you'd like to repair.

... Programming is not just confined to the realms of IT professionals, and can be used for far more than making apps or websites. Many artists and designers use software in their process, and in some cases write or commision custom software to help them realise their creative vision. By learning to engage the computer more directly through code, you will have the possibility to create new tools and modes of expression.
In this workshop we’ll go through the basic building blocks of coding in the context of the visual arts, without assuming any prior knowledge. We’ll be using p5.js, a language that can easily be used to create geometric shapes and animations.
Your tutor will be computer programmer Ibby EL-Serafy.
Tickets are £12 available here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/an-introdu ction-to-creative-…
In the weeks after this workshop we will be running free Wednesday afternoon drop-in sessions at Access Space for those wishing to expand thier knowledge and develop thier ideas. Watch out for details soon at http://www.facebook.com/accessspace.

Access Space was one of the first arts organisations in the UK to open a maker space, in 2012. Since then we've had a lot of experience in successfully helping artists and makers realise the wonderful ideas they have.
Materials and equipment will be provided. This course is suitable for all abilities. For examples of the kind of things people have made at Access Space take a look at http://madeataccy.tumblr.com/

We are lucky to have a lot of livecoded noise going on at access space. However, I'll be saving this particular recording of this set from Malitzin Cortes aka CNDSD + Ivan Abreu (MX) for when I'm trawling through the spam in our office inbox. Eulerroom x Algorave #livecoding #algorave
