Last night we attended the fabulous Yorkshire Lawyers Awards Dinner at the Royal Armories in Leeds. A glittering event with over 1000 lawyers celebrating excellence in the legal profession across the Yorkshire region. We missed out on the Law Firm (small) of the Year Award but were absolutely thrilled that our own Mary Butler was posthumously award the Lifetime Achievement Award at the climax of the evening.
Announcing the award Paul Singh, past president of the Sheffield... and District Law Society said: The award is for a person who has created a memorable impact over a number of year and whose influence has spread far and wide….she had a tenacious attitude … she was a kick ass person with lots of drive and energy and was will to take up cases others had given up on. She always made time for other members of staff and often took trainees under her wing.
The Award was accepted by the Partners and Alex Ross said: Mary was an extremely warm hearted and generous person and an inspiration to those who worked with her. She was respected as a fierce but fair opponent. In short, she was a good lawyer.
At Bell & Buxton we miss her every moment of everyday, but we are privileged to have had the opportunity to know Mary and to work with her.
We are immensely proud of the recognition she has received with this award (her third Yorkshire Lawyer Award) and the standing ovation she received when the award was announced is further testimony to the high esteem that her colleagues in the legal profession have for her.
