Last week Spring arrived early here at BIADS! On Tuesday evening 9 members from "Barnsley GoodGym" came along to help our loyal volunteers Wally and Jack introduce some colour in our garden; we even had the pleasure of a visit from Councillor Steve Green the Mayor of Barnsley. GoodGym are a group of runners who combine regular exercise with support for the community. What a "blooming" good job they did too! Many thanks from all at BIADS.

Our volunteers received star treatment last Friday visiting Barnsley Town Hall as guests of the Mayor, Councillor Steve Green. They enjoyed afternoon tea and a tour of the Town Hall including the Council Chambers and the Mayor's Parlour. BIADS is one of the Mayor's charities of the year and he is particularly keen to show his appreciation of the fantastic contribution volunteers make to both BIADS and the community as a whole. We endorse this sentiment and extend as BIG thank you from BIADS to all our volunteers.

What a difference a day makes! A big thank you to the 5 volunteers from the Royal Bank of Scotland Business Banking team who came in last week to decorate two of our rooms in need of an update. The rooms will be used as quiet areas for carers and family members to relax in whilst their loved one is enjoying a one to one session in our Multi Sensory room . Well done ladies!

Last Saturday six wonderful employees from our corporate partners NPS undertook a 10k "Its Grim up North" run on the Leeds/Liverpool canal. We are pleased to say that they all completed the run with no injuries and from the photographs plenty of smiles! Their Just Giving page has already well exceeded the target and stands at over £1300!! There is still time to donate at justgiving.com/fundraising/npsbarnsley. Thank you NPS for your continued support.

TIME TO CELEBRATE!!! Three years ago, we received a grant from the Lottery to provide activity services for which we were very grateful. Throughout the grant period we had to submit reports on how the money was spent and evaluation reports on the ways in which our members have benefitted from the support. At the beginning of last year, we talked to the Lottery about possible continuation funding. We were told that a continuation bid would only be considered when the monit...oring on the previous grant was completed. So, we submitted our idea to the Lottery last year, which was then taken forward to the full grant proposal stage. We worked on this document for many months, making changes suggested by our monitoring officer, and finally submitted our 38-page application last November. To have any chance of success we had to make sure we supplied all the information the Lottery needed and with proof of policies and procedures in place. We heard in December that we had been successful in our application subject to the final report being accepted. This ran to 19 pages. All the hard work over the last three years providing services and the time spent on the application were more than worth it because our continuation grant has now started and we can continue the fantastic support we offer to Barnsley people affected by dementia.

This week two lovely ladies, Michelle and Claire from the Digital Science Development team at Barnsley Council came to tidy and organise our activity store room- which was in bad need of a de-clutter! This was part of the Employee Volunteer Scheme- they spent all day with us and did an absolutely amazing job. A massive THANKYOU ladies for your hard work.
