Well after reading more bad reviews than good... it was my first time visiting today and I absolutely love it. My food order was slightly wrong but the male waiter changed it for me immediately with no fuss... and the food I had was 5* I hope my next visit is the same as today's because I would hate to think I would never want to return...but burnt wood from the comments I have read you may want to calm down a bit with the wrist bands especially when people are paying a fortune purchasing your food.. teach your staff customer service skills and everyone's happy ďż˝

Thanks to the bar man who offered to have a dairy free cake brought down from the hotel for my little girl. She always has to go without dessert. Brilliant service. ďż˝

Had mums 80th Birthday meal on Sunday

Over 20 of us including great grandchildren over 2 long tables.

Not the first celebration we’ve had here and won’t be the last.

Couple of minor things could have been better and one guy needs attitude adjustment but overall enjoyable.

The bar staff were helpful and friendly a credit to the hotel.

Came yesterday for our tea, 5 adults, 5 children

We got there for 4pm. We got a table straight away. Ordered our food. It was lovely. Well worth it's money. Not a problem with any of meals we ordered.

Only down side was staff could had moved empty pots off table sooner than they did.

And we had to ask for puddings that came with meal deals for children.

This didn't affect our visit. And will be back again shortly. Thank u

User

Pleased with our visit. Was first time at the playarea and is a shame we can't eat in the playarea to watch our children at the same time but glad eating area was just outside. Not sure it's necessary to be quite so strict with bands as my son who I didn't have to even pay for wasn't keen on having a band on. Made to put it on n told they aren't allowed in without one. Later even had the cheek to ask if he had a band on. It wasn't hidden under his sleeve otherwise he was trying to take it off. Have you thought stamps on hands would be better than bands to cause less distress. Food was lovely though

It looks like from reading the reviews that I’m not alone when saying that customer service poor. In general the staff looked like they were working as slaves , certainly not wanting to be there and looked unhappy . I ordered a child’s meal deal today with my adult meal but wasn’t given a receipt. So when I went to order my daughters ice cream I had to explain I didn’t get a ticket for it. I asked the girl who served me who said she would have to go and print off the receipt again to give to the girl who was serving the ice cream . While waiting at the desk I asked if I could be served with my ice cream while I waited for my ice cream ticket. The girl then said she wasn’t allowed to until she had the ticket in her hand. The other girl then came back and asked what else I’d ordered as she couldn’t find the receipt ! At this point I answered her and then sat back down as I had my one year old in my arms (who wanted an ice cream). After ten minutes she came back saying it had been put through as a child’s meal and not the icecream deal so I couldn’t have one!! Never did she apologise for making a mistake or as a gesture, offer me the child’s icecream! So I just walked away. The staff seem scared to be courteous and one member of staff even gestured as though she agreed with our comments of how poor we were treated . It’s a shame because the food is nice but you certainly don’t feel looked after .

User

As with most of the reviews, unfortunately it is the customer service that really let Burntwood down today.

I ordered pie which took half an hour to arrive. When I enquired where my food was, I was told it says on the menu it takes 30 minutes. After checking the menu with the service staff, it was clear that it does not say anywhere but there was no apology the guy just said ‘well it used to’. If I had been advised about this upon ordering, I would have changed to something else. It meant that the rest of the table had finished their food before mine and my little girl’s arrived.

I know that may seem a little picky but good customer service goes a long way and I would not be leaving this review if they had simply apologised for their mistake.

User

This place defo needs to upskill staff and management on customer service. You get what looks like a 12 year old talking down to you when you ask for an extra chair for a large party and management not even muster up an apology when my daughter found a fly in her food. Used to be a good place but will not be going again.

User

Wow! Terrible customer service. Will never go back. Why can’t simple allowances be made for children with spd/autism when it comes to wearing the wrist band. It’s unfair to expect people to explain multiple times about why our child couldn’t wear the band! He couldn’t enjoy playing when all he could only focus on was how uncomfortable the band was. There was no allowances just repeating the same ‘no band no play’ crap. It was dealt with by husband but they couldn’t care less really. We would have left except we were part of a large party. In the end we tied the wristband to the back of his jeans. Tip to staff, just suggest to families it can be tied to somewhere else to avoid causing distress and arguments and loss of customers..simple! Or issue receipts to parents to provide proof of payment, there’s gotta be lots of alternatives to how your currently treating your paying customers. You also blamed it on Barnsley council so I’ll message them also to check if they truly endorse your treatment of people with additional needs...

User

Will never come here again. Couldn’t book. Had to stand up to wait for a table to become available. My 65 year old father who is on crutches was not offered a seat or anything at all to make him more comfortable. When we were seated the table was FAR too small for 4 adults plus a toddler in a high chair. Very limited menu available on Sundays. We all opted for the carvery which is more expensive than you’d normally pay elsewhere and the quality was not great. It wasn’t terrible but the meat was very dry and a lot of the veg was cold. I think the thing that tipped it over the edge for us was simply how grim most of the staff were. The guy with the “clipboard of power”, greeting people at the door and deciding who gets to sit down, when and where needs to be sent on a customer service course at the first opportunity. Absolutely atrocious attitude! The bar staff all looked like they had been forced to work a double shift for no extra money. Many of the younger wait staff were more pleasant and helpful but to be honest the damage was done.

User

What an awful attitude from Sharon the "Manager" and official wrist band police woman. We were a large group today and had all paid for our children to play in the play area, but a couple of the children were uncomfortable with the wrist bands on due to sensory processing issues and autism. Apparently it doesn't matter and if the children don't wear a band they can't play, & no it's not acceptable for the parents to keep the band on display on the table. This woman definitely needs to work on her Customer Care Skills. We saw her arguing with another family who's toddler was clearly distressed when being made to wear a band but she didn't care, & asked them to leave!!! Sharon was also extremely rude to my 8 month pregnant friend and her children. She informed me that I could be lying that my son was autistic as " you can normally tell by looking at a child if they are autistic" and when I asked for her name to make a complaint she said that didn't matter anyway as all complaints went to her as she's the owner! What a shocking attitude!!!!

User

We came today for my sister's 50th and there were 13 of us, we are not allowed to book and we were told a hours wait, we came at 1 and now at 4 we have been told they can't seat us all!!! They offered us tables but not together which is no Good. We suggested that booking over a certain amount of people would be an option and we were told no straight away. We complained and then were offered tables again but not again together which is no Good, if you come as a party you should be able to be sat as a party. I think because they are always so busy it didn't matter too much that they had lost about 130 quid but to us it has ruined our day!!! However they were quite happy to take our money over the bar for 3 hours while we were waiting!!! And now all the kids are eating crisps because they have waited 3 hours for their food, again taking money over the bar. Would not recommend for bigger parties, it's ridiculous!!!

User

Was told abruptly my 1 year old was not allowed to drink his own drink in the play area even though he wasnt actually drinking it. I'd removed it from my bag which was open on the table to take out my phone & oops forgot to put it back. Sometimes its not what's said it's how it's said staff need alot of training on how to be friendly, they all look miserable. I spoke to someone who i assumed was a manager who also had an equally bad attitude & said "it's like eating a cheese sandwich you'd brought from home" REALLY a babies juice bottle we had other drinks we'd purchased at bar so wasnt like we was just sat there. I feel the whole place is like a prison camp signs everywhere "no band no play". We've visited lots over a number of years for food but after this happened we walked out & ate somewhere that was very welcoming

User

Shocking !, Waited 40 minutes to get a table by the staff shouting your name and then stating your tables over there, not even takung you to your table. When seated you had to wait a further 30 minutes to get food. Theres only 1 man serving meat, there needs to be 2 areas of serving with queues this long. The food wasnt worth waiting that length of time of for. This was chaos, there needs to be a booking system put in place. Were had been advised this was nice for sunday roast so thought we would try for a change. Never again will we go !

User

I will never go again. Discrimination at its worst. Kids with spd/autism don’t want to wear bands and don’t understand why they have to. Therefore get excluded from playing. Stupid policy. Stupid management. It is like saying to a crippled person they have to climb stairs or not come In. Not heard last of this from me and my very upset family. only a one star cos I can’t give it a zero.

User

I have visited the restaurant on numerous occasions and overall generally been pleased with the quality of food only. However the attitude towards myself and my children was very unprofessional and rude today, regarding recent changes to the wrist band policy within the children's play area. My four year old boy will happily wear the wristband provided, however my two year old does not like to wear them and it makes him very upset and often distressed. When I have visited previously (2 weeks ago was the last time I visited) it wasn't a problem that I wore the band as I accompanied him in the play area. However today this was an issue and I was told that if he doesn't wear it then we would have to leave. If it hadn't been for my family who had travelled from Oxford to meet me there (and I had already ordered and paid for food) then I would have requested my money back. A male member of staff stated that he has children and that he would make his child wear the band ... well congratulations to you, but I will not make my child wear something on their wrist they find uncomfortable. I managed to tie the 'wrist band' around his zip and this was deemed acceptable... May I suggest a sticker or a stamp that is much more child friendly. I am not surprised that your restaurant has received such negative feedback in a number of areas after my visit today. If I hear of improvements to the organisation and foremost wellbeing of children visiting then I will happily return, but I would definitely not recommend it as a child friendly restaurant after my experience today.

User

I have heard the feedback on how the restaurant treats kids with autism. Please educate yourselves as a workplace or the word will spread and no-one will go. Also, stop upsetting children ďż˝

I booked for a table of 6 on Mother's Day, what a complete disappointment and was absolute discusting meal. Turkey was dry, veg was either over cooked or under cooked, roast potatos were frozen and under cooked, my mum swollowed a bone from meat and cut her mouth and her pudding was over cooked in the microwave. The receptionists was rude. A manager came out rising his voice to the waiters and waitresses i dont call that professional.

I made a complaint on Sunday and i am still waiting for a reply. What a joke

For the past 3 years my son has had a party at woodys he absolutely loves it the staff have always been brilliant. This year i left very upset. When we arrived i was told we were 2 hours early when we were in fact 15 minutes early. They rang infront of us and again we were told no it's 4pm not 2pm anyway after this their attitudes changed and we felt like we were in the way. I didn't have the copy to prove. They rushed us around we got the children to the dinner tables the food came out they were after a while rushed again they came straight out with icecream plonked it on the table and brought the cake out the bar manager just plonked it on the table no singing like normal no nothing I was disgusted they rushed us and my son felt this too and said its not as nice as last time they really didn't bother with the children as normal I paid to have a stress free time and for my child to be made to feel special he didn't! The woman brought the party bags and just left I wanted to speak to someone I found a lovely older woman blonde/grey hair who told me to speak to the bar manager with him already having an attitude i decided not to. Even the parents of my son's friends said this was disgusting. my son's birthday was rushed and we were treated like massive inconveniences. I complained by email with proof of reviept to show it was in fact their fault and we felt as bad as we did through their mistakes!!! The manager got back to me and seemed pretty shocked as these were goof staff members. He offered us a free play for my son in the play area but we wont ever be coming back.
