Heeley City Farm

About Heeley City Farm

Heeley City Farm grew from a campaign in 1981 by local people to develop a piece of wasteland into a multi faceted community organisation.

Heeley City Farm Description

Heeley City Farm is a community farm in Heeley, Sheffield. Founded just over 30 years ago, it began with £20 in the bank, donated saplings and flower seeds, a hut and a goat and masses of help from enthusiastic local people. It now employs over 50 people, many who live near the farm, and as well as being a livestock farm, has projects supporting young people, families, community elders, healthy eating, local food growing sites, heritage, archaeology, adults with disabilities and learning difficulties, fuel poverty reduction, energy conservation, forest schools, environmental conservation and work experience. We also have a vegetarian and vegan community cafe, The Farm Kitchen, a peat free Garden Centre and South Yorkshire Energy Centre. We have food growing sites at Meersbrook Park Walled Garden, Firth Park Community Allotment, Wortley Hall Walled Garden, Low Edges and Norfolk Park Community Garden as well as a kitchen garden at the main farm site.

Our alternative provision students had a wild, wet and windy afternoon visiting our soay sheep up at Ringinglow! The sheep were completely unphased by the weather and just interested in the food we took them. Aren't they looking great?! 😁

ONE WEEK TO GO! In one weeks time every donation made to the Farm will be doubled by outside funders! #onedonationtwicetheimpact
As part of The Big Give Christmas Campaign, between Tues 27th Nov at 12noon till Tues 4th Dec at 12noon, any donation made to the Farm via The Big Give website will be doubled!
As a not-for-profit charity we rely heavily on the generosity of others and the donations that come in help the farm run on a day to day basis.
... Any donations made during this period will go towards the up keep of the animals. The animals at the Farm support adults with learning difficulties and disabilities who regularly come to the farm, the young people who come for lessons at the farm, care home residents through animal assisted therapy and much more.
Next Tuesday the donate button will go live, access the website here https://tinyurl.com/ycyz7pxs

We love this place! Fantastic centre for the local community. Lovely staff, and hands on opportunities with some interesting animals! Cafe is reasonably priced. Lots of chill out space. Plant sales. Playground. Room hire... and lots of events on!

We had a fab morning - delicious and well priced home cooked food in the cafe (£3 for a kids meal and under a fiver for a hot meal with a choice of 3 salads). The toddlers loved the playground, the goats and guinea pigs. We also enjoyed exploring the veg patches and landscaped areas- all safe and accessible for small feet. There's plenty of free street parking in the area. Its a great place for all ages- I am definitely coming back again!

User
