Dear Clients. We have 16 working days to file your 2018 self assessment tax return. Of which I am out of the office for 2 of those with clients. At the last count I have 34 tax returns for which I have not received information for. Returns will be prepared on a first in basis, so the earlier records are dropped off the better. Remember that if the return is not filed by 31st January 2019 you will incur a penalty of £100 plus interest on tax not paid by the due date.... Please also note that returns will not be filed until our fees have been settled in full.

Making Tax Digital - please read Dear Clients You will appreciate that HMRC is changing the way that the are to receive VAT returns from 1st April 2019. You will no longer be able to use the HMRC online portal, which is used by clients who do not prepare there accounts on 3rd party accounting software. If you currently use 3rd party software to submit VAT returns then there will be no change to you.... If you prepare VAT returns on a spreadsheet or manually in a cashbook then you will need to consider moving across to 3rd party software. Although you can use any software, we personally recommend either Quickbooks or Sage 50 Accounts. If you are currently using the package we can obtain a saving on your package via our professional advisor program, and are awaiting an email from Quickbooks of the revised charges which increased on 1st January 2019. Once we have these charges we can contact you to let you know the saving you can make. If you prepare your VAT return on a spreadsheet or manually in a cashbook - we are happy for you to continue this way, but you will need to drop off all records to us on a quarterly basis and we shall process the returns into our software in order to send. You will appreciate that will incur additional accountancy charges to yourself, based on the additional time involved, as opposed to using your final figures. If we already process your records fully, then there will just be a small increase in this cost due to increased software expenses. However, the best way would be for you to move over to a 3rd party software yourself, as this will mean that you can process your data directly into the software which will then prepare your VAT returns for you. If you can review Quickbooks or Sage Line 50, and if you would like to move across to one of the version please let us know. You can review the packages and costs on there website. If you use the Quickbooks online version, we, as your accountants, can obtain access directly to your data, which will mean that at the year end we can print out the relevant details required, and this should save money at the year end. If you do not use a package already, we would suggest that you run the package from 1st April 2019, or which ever VAT quarter includes this date. And run it in tandem with your current version. The amounts should then agree to each other and let you know that you are using the software correctly. We will be hear to help with any problems you may have. Presently MTD only effects VAT registered business with turnover over £85,000 but will grow to include all business in the future. Thank you for taking the time to read this Regards Sharon
