About Odd Sock Dance

Beginner and intermediate disco dancing classes for adults.

Odd Sock Dance Description

Beginner and intermediate disco dancing classes for adults.
Classes run during term time only: Intermediate - 11am - 12pm and Beginner 12pm - 1pm (teaching time is fifty minutes due to class changeover and vacating the dance studio in time). £5 per person per class. Pay as you attend. It is, however, recommended that you commit to regular attendance. As routines typically take 4 weeks to learn, missed classes will not be retaught to those who did not attend as the others will need to progress with the routine. Also, if dancers choose to attend on an infrequent basis, the class will not be financially viable to run.

Well, the OSD show is over. Thanks to my wonderful dancers for all their hard work over the past two years. Here's to the next one in 2020. In the meantime, I am now going to take a few months of rest and classes will resume as normal on 26th September 2018. Please drop me an email if you would like to join a class. However, an 8-week disco summer school programme will be run by one of my associate teachers commencing Wed 1st Aug 12pm (til Wed 19th Sept). All welcome. Please see my website for details of all the OSD classes from now until July 2019. It is regularly updated and all the info you need is on there. oddsockdancesheffield.co.uk

Odd Sock Dance would like to hear from anyone who is in the early stages of dementia and who is interested in disco dancing.
As part of my M.A in Dance Movement Psychotherapy, I undertook movement workshops with clients in the later stages of dementia in a care home. Research has shown that after several months of regular learning of dance routines, there is an increase in the hippocampus area of the brain - the area associated with memory. This is also the area associated... with age-related brain decline. Researchers have, therefore, posited that dancing may slow down this process and stave off the onset of dementia.
I would love to hear from anyone who would be interested in being part of a Disco for Dementia class.
Please note: this is neither a therapy class nor a research class. It is merely an opportunity for people in the early stages of dementia to meet, dance together and have fun!
