Ey up!! Our horological shenanigans have moved into the world of 19th century Automata.. this mechanical singing bird was made by the famous Karl Griesbaum who took over from Blaise Bontems (1814 - 1893) in the late 19th century.. Bontem was a noted Parisian specialist in the manufacture of automaton singing birds and the first of a dynasty of automaton manufacturers, which included his son Charles Jules and his grandson Lucien. Bontems' birds were famous for the realism of t...heir song. In 1960 Reuge took over Bontems as well as Eschle's production in Germany. The acquisition insured that the 200 year old tradition would be safeguarded. To this day Reuge continues the manufacture of singing birds, in the traditional manner. Birds are painstakingly feathered by hand and meticulously assembled, piece by piece.
As you can see.. it is in a very original working state and requires a full restoration. This Bird will be totally dismantled, repaired and serviced by us and I will show it's progress as we go along! It will also be ready for a new home when it's finished... if your interested in owning it.. get in touch!

Benjamin Vulliamy (1747 – 31 December 1811), was a clockmaker responsible for building the Regulator Clock, which, between 1780 and 1884, was the official regulator of time in London.
Benjamin Vulliamy was the son of Justin Vulliamy, a clo...

To allow us to be more productive in the workshop, we have made the following changes. Please note that we have changed our opening times for Tuesday - Friday, we are now available/open from 9am - 12 midday for drop-ins. We are available in the shop 12 - 5pm for appointments only. If you would like to drop off or pick up a clock, please ring for an appointment if you are unable to come in the morning. Please also note there will be a limited admin service in the afternoons, which may delay us answering the phone and returning your messages. Please be patient with us. Many thanks Adrian and Alison Overton

Ey up!! Hope you a had lovely break... it's the first tick tock Thursday of the year and I have a treat.. we start the year with two Schonberger regulator Vienna clocks.. one is a "double" weight and the other is the rarer "triple" weight Vienna with Grand Sonnerie striking. As you can see. The initial condition of the movement was rough! After three days.. it is now ready for another 150 years! Enjoy! πŸ€“

Ey up.. are you looking for a late special Xmas present? This Mid 19th century carriage clock has just been restored by us and is looking absolutely marvellous! It has the makers mark of A Dumas who was an important maker and was part of the founding makers of carriage clocks. Unlike most of the others, he made his own cases and this unusual one is made of individually cast parts that have been Gilded. The timepieces movement has been fully restored and polished and will come with a full 12 month warranty... Β£350.... interested? Give us a call on 01246 204978 before it goes.! πŸ€“

A full minute repeater carriage clock movement.! This marvalous miniature carriage clock has just been fully restored by us and is ready to back in its case... Thought you might like It.... πŸ€“ Overtonclocks.co.uk

User

Ey up! It's tick tick Thursday! A couple of marvoulous clocks in this week for you... the first is an extremely rare 19th century digital clock! It came to us in a very sorry state and required a bit of research to find the original patent so we could repair it! It's a shame to put the dial back on now.... the second is a minute repeating miniature carraige clock. The case has gone away for re-gilding so should look amazing when it's back.. in the meantime.. the movement has been fully stripped and cleaned and is now on test... let's just say... it's a bit complicated! Enjoy! πŸ€“

I took my late fathers pocket watch to be repaired as it had not ticked in 30 years!

I had to wait a while for it to be repaired but once it was done the wait was well worth it.

Brilliant friendly service from Adrian and I was amazed how little it cost for the repair to be done.

I can Highly recommend Overton Clocks!!
