we have just returned from our River Cruise on The Rhine aboard the Da Vinci. The Crew staff were excellent. As for the Shearing Rep not as good as other trips we have been on.

The Restaurant food was excellent and the theme nights and captains dinner were great fun.The cabins are small when the beds are down but are comfortable.Every day there was mid morning and afternoon tea and coffee with either cake or biscuit. On the evening they came round with a snack or two. They had 2 drink packages and we did buy one as it worked out cheaper than adding to the bill to be settled at the end of the trip.

We did not book any excursions as we wanted to do our own thing. The ship docked very near to the towns and meant we could look at what we wanted to see. The whole trip was great with no problems apart from the last day when things started to go wrong. We had been scheduled to arrive in Basel at 1pm but due to the locks we had to go though we were delayed and did not arrive till 4pm.The captain had no control over this and he did his best This meant that the passengers who had already paid and booked the excursion had to have a amended one. It also meant we did not have as much time to explore as we would have missed the captains dinner. They did amend the time to allow us a bit more free time. The Da Vinci is a lovely ship but we were told that after this year they are not using her as she has been sold.

We have just returned from Lake Maggiore and the Matterhorn and would like to thank you for a superb holiday. Beautiful place, we stayed at the Hotel Beau Riveage which was lovely. Friendly, clean, ideally situated no complaints at all. A big thank you to Pav, our driver, he was amazing, nothing was too much trouble and his knowledge of the area was unending. The trips were good and apart from one day we were out and about with Pav on the bus. Thank you Shearings we are looking forward to our next trip, albeit the UK, in 2 weeks to Warners Gunton Hall.

This was our 1st holiday with shearings and we went to malgrat da Mar on the 16th June and I can only praise shearings highly from the time we were picked up in Newton abbot, the driver was cheerful and told us to board the coach while he dealt with the cases,

Stop 24 was busy but the staff were very helpful and the organisation was excellent, we sat on the grass just watching eating our lunch it was very slick

Getting on the coach was a bit chaotic only because people just got on and sat where they wanted or didn't seem to be able to read seat numbers!!!! So a few minutes with a stern driver sorted it out lol,

The drive to the tunnel was smooth and a stop at the cash and carry to pick up our drivers Ian and Simon, now this is where the holiday begins because they were like a double act!!!

They were amazing and couldn't do enough for us, Simon makes the best cup of tea, the information they provided all the way to Spain was brilliant,

Arrived in Spain and was told what to expect about checking in time etc,

The Monday we went to blanes Market again slick service and informative

Went to Barcelona on the Thursday and what they didn't know about the city properly wasn't worth knowing

Friday we went to tossa da Mar again another lovely time, as we were there 2weeks It was Time to say goodbye to them, thank you Ian and simon,

Our 2 nd week we explored the area using the train station next to our holiday) I've left a separate review on TripAdvisor about the hotel), coming home we had Patrick and andera again slick service, came back on the ferry again all on time and informative, back to stop 24 on and off the coach within 30 minutes,

Back to our home town 30 mins early

Thank you can't praise your team enough

On behalf of myself and travel companion I would like to thank Harry our driver and Sue our tour manager for an incredible tour of the Swiss rail journeys. They made our tour so interesting and couldn’t do enough for everyone. I have been going on tours with you for nearly 20years as far as Russia and can honestly say it rates as one of the best due to their willing to do anything to make our trip memorable.

Please extend to them

Just returned from Strathpeffer.

We struck gold with our driver James, a gem. Professional, calm, safe driver with a delightful sense of humour.. nothing was too much trouble for him. Very customer focussed. A credit to himself and Shearings holidays.

Rooms in the hotel were tired, needing refurbishment but they were clean, and I only slept there so no problem.

The food was good, lots of choice for dinner.

Entertainment 4 out of 5 evenings.

Even the weather was agreeable.

The overnight hotels were of a very high standard.

The quality hotel in Sunderland offered the better breakfast.

The staff in all the hotels were wonderful.

I have booked another holiday next year and I'm expecting great things.

User

Just got back from the Adriatic all inclusive tour. Can I say Ian and Julie are definitely the best drivers we have had on a shearings holiday. Totally organised professional and a pleasure to be with. The journey to and from Italy was the best I've ever done all down to their organisation of the journey.

Also the hotel miramare leisure and spa is amazing in a fab location. I'd recommend this holiday totally. Thank you

User

Just got back from a five day trip to the Isle of Wight what a fantastic experience from start to end we stayed at the broadway park hotel in sandown the hotel is fabulous lovely comfy rooms lovely food staff are so friendly beautiful surroundings our driver Jim was so friendly and knowledgable nothing was too much trouble would highly recommend this place.

User

Just got back from a week at the monteplaya hotel in Malgrat de Mar. I can’t fault the hotel. The coach was lovely and the organisation skills of Shearings is far better than other companies I have been with but I have a serious complaint about one of the drivers simon.

He was rude to a few people on the trip. He snapped at someone that asked a simple question about the time difference in France to the uk. He was then rude to my mum that asked about the excursions. He said he wasn’t going to tell her anything as he would be wasting his breath and time as they were going to be cancelled as not enough people had signed up to them!!

He likes the sound of his own voice and would treat us like idiots when explaining things, he kept going on and on about excursions when people are trying to sleep at night! I think the lack of interest in the excursions is probably because they didn’t want to spend anymore time with him than they had to!

Also on the way back, I think they may have blocked a lorry in when stopping a service station and a local was obviously annoyed. He probably said something to them in Spanish and Simon shouted shut up you knob! Zip it! And flicked the bird at the local! I find this extremely unprofessional!!!

Ian the other driver was lovely! And very knowledgeable and helpful but I do fear as others stated to, by the end of the trip he was going on a little to long and taking on some of Simons bad habits.

To sum it up fab holiday and would of been 5 star if it wasn’t for Simon, his arrogant and full of himself attitude needs to be sorted!

User

Just come back from an 8 day tour based at the Torbay Hotel Torquay, our driver the larger than life Michael with is dapper Trilby was fantastic and a very good advert for the company. The hotel sadly looking like is needed attention and the lift was out of service all week, a recurring comment it seems. That said the food was excellent and the staff brilliant.

User

Just come back from Torquay. The Torbay hotel is very nice. The food was good and location but to have one lift that wasn’t working wasn’t acceptable. Surely a part for the lift could have been found locally. We were on the fourth floor and it was hard getting up the stairs but there were people who really struggled. We were told this was Shearings flag ship hotel but I’m afraid it must have slipped down a few notches!

User

Went on a Shearings trip to St Mawes, Cornwall hotel clean, food good. Paid for upgrade which cost £156, room tiny, approx. 4 x 3 (bedroom only) with sea view on standing up, this was no upgrade, who is going to read a book and stand up looking out of the window, which is what I was sold. Friends had standard room bigger than ours and were saying it was small, thought ours was a joke especially as we had paid that much extra for the 4 nights, disgusted. Don't get an upgrade, rubbish.

The first time myself and my wife have gone on a shearings holiday, and the last, we got back from a 5 day break in Whitby on friday.

We were picked up at our location at 9.30am

And arrived at the London gateway to catch the coach to Whitby we were told we wont be leaving until 11. Once we were on the coach we were then told instead of going straight to Whitby we would have to pick up 1 couple from Milton Keynes & another 21 from Corley services near Birmingham, when we booked we were told we would be going straight to Whitby from the gateway. By doing these pickups we arrived at our hotel in Whitby at 6.15 pm we were totally shattered.

The morning after we had a trip on a steam train in the morning and in the afternoon a trip to the Eden camp, this was a fantastic place to see but unfortunatly you are only given 2 hours to visit which is not enough you need at least a day to have a good look.

On the Thursday we had a trip to Scarborough, the sun was out all day and we were all looking forward to getting there, we really enjoyed ourselves , except again we only had 2 hours to look around. We would have liked a whole day there. Friday morning we had to get the coach home and go back the way we came including the trip to Birmingham and Milton Keynes we finally got to London gateway at 3pm and we had to wait until 4pm to get the coach home.

We have decided that travelling with shearings is not for us and from now on will be going by train

User

Just got back from Whitby. 10hr journey home!! 2 hour wait at London gateway going there and hours an half wait on way home . Stayed at Royal Hotel but never again. Window in room was nailed shut. Room was supplied with a fan but was filthy dirty. Poor decor. Dirty carpet. Could not hang clothes in wardrobe as it was too dusty. Drinks very expensive so didn't bother after day one. Food plain and not enough of it.

Just back from a weekend at the Savoy Hotel Bournemouth. We were pleased with the hotel, but the journey to and from Bournemouth was a different experience altogether. Going down was bad enough although it started well as our feeder coach was a Grand Tourer and very comfortable. We’re used to the wait at Corley for the onward coach, but when we got on it the driver told us that we were going to meet up with the coach from Stretton at Warwick Services, less than an hour away. When we arrived, of course , they were on their break so we had to wait for the best part of an hour before we set off to Bournemouth.Luckily Bournemouth is only about 3 hours away so that part of the journey was ok. Of course we had to repeat the process in reverse 3 days later , but the return journey was much worse. We changed buses again at Warwick, with a 50 minute wait, but this time it was a local Company who took us on to Corley, where, for a time, it looked as though the Shearings staff wanted us to go away as we were “too early”. “Hold on a minute”....” we’re not early, you’ve brought us here!!!” Anyway, the upshot was that we had another hour and a half wait before our Local Company feeder coach was ready to take us home. This coach was so bad that the driver apologised to us before we set off. There was hardly any legroom, the seats were very low ,there was no toilet, and no air-con so it was impossible to stay cool.Luckily, the driver managed to get us home in good time, but Shearings need to stop making a big point of their Luxury Coach travel and make it clear that a good part of your journey may be spent on an“old banger”.Our driver for the Bournemouth leg of our holiday was aloof and unfriendly, sometimes even rude, not what you expect at all.

Have been on trips for many years with Shearings, including the continent, which has always been excellent value and I never had cause to complain. However I was more than disappointed with my recent visit to Strathpeffer, particularly the restaurant and food served. On the same table as me was a "chef" who commented that he would never allow the meals we were served to be sent out of his kitchen let alone his guests. Also due to the long trip we arrived quite late and went straight into the restaurant for our evening meal. I then went to my room which to my disappointment was very cold. I turned up the radiators but to no avail. The next morning I went to see the manager to complain about this and he said the heating was thermastaticly controlled. I didn't like his attitude as he appeared to be saying I didn't know what i was talking about. However he arranged for an electric heater to be put in my room. During the whole of my stay the radiators never did work and no one was ever sent to check the fault. Whilst the bedroom remained warm the bathroom was freezing cold the whole time I was there. Another guest mentioned to me that Shearings had been taken over by an American company and if this is correct this may be the reason the hotel did not come up to the usual standard I have always experienced in my visits to Shearings hotels. I had been to Strathpeffer some time ago which was to my entire satisfaction, but due to my experience with my recent trip I will make one more trip to another Hotel to see if Strathpeffer was a "one off" or if in fact Shearings is now owned by another company !!!

User

My mum is currently on a 4 day break at Eastbourne. Apparently she has been put in a single room with no view despite her confirmation stating a double room had been booked. She has spoken to reception to complain and asked to be moved but was told there was nothing they could do and she would have to speak to head office on her return who would sort out compensation. Would have been better in my opinion to just sort the issue there and then. This has somewhat ruined what should have been a relaxing break. Disappointed and will be looking for alternative coach companies to use in future

User

Just got back from a 5 day tour to Liverpool to the Adelphi hotel.we have been on quite a few shearing holidays and have been satisfied with the experience but I'm afraid the Liverpool one was in all honestly the worst. The Adelphi wants taking out of your brochure, what a shambles this hotel is.The meals there are not fit for human consumption we were offered liver kidneys pork 3 times out of the 4 days,we ate out in fact the last day couldn't stomach the restaurant chaos.it was every man for himself at the buffet style meals total chaos how anybody did not get burnt I do not know.waiters were fetching hot food to the serving area pushing by diners and one morning a girl fetched a plastic bucket of boiling water to fill the urn for tea surely this is a health and safety matter. Saying all this the good side was the 2 included tours were very good and our driver Phil was excellent with his knowledge of Liverpool

User

I found out my ‘reduced rate’ holiday booked in january is now £660 cheaper now (for a family of 4) so for a £2000+ holiday it is a lot of money to lose. People work and can’t book last minute due to the logistics. I am very unhappy. Nothing positive from Sheerings when contacted.

User

I am absolutely disgusted with Shearings policy regarding single passengers. I have just been into our local travel agent to book our holiday for the 1st week in July to Pitlochry. Me and my partner booked for a double at a cost of £398.00 for the two of us and after we had finished and completed our booking my dad who is 78 and what would have been his 1st Scottish holiday and Shearings holiday was horrified to find out that as there is no single rooms available for that date he would have to pay for a double at the same cost as it cost me and my partner, £398.00. He would not be taking up 2 seats on the coach or even eating double meals so why should he have to pay for two people. We do understand that single people have to pay a single supplement but expecting someone to pay double is beyond belief. Me and my partner immediately cancelled our booking. because of this Shearings has now lost £600.00 in holiday sale which I suppose is just a drop in the ocean for a large company. My partner and I have been travelling with Shearings for a number if years and are very disappointed. Considering that it is mainly elderly people who go on these holidays some of whom are widowed as is my dad I think that pricing policy for single travellers needs to be reviewed
