We went on Election Day and when James Comey was giving evidence, it made the performance even more apt and disturbing but delivered with strength and a dark beauty. Art imitating life! Having not studied any Shakespeare at school (English O level in 1980's!) I have seen several performances in Sheffield and they never disappoint. Lovely touch to celebrate the promotion of your young persons projects. Thank you for the programme and drink, cheers! Fantastic performances by all. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

User

We visited the Crucible to watch my Nephew in What We Wished For...as always the staff were extremely friendly and helpful staff. The play was great and all performers did a wonderful job!! An all round excellent experience, thank you!!

User

Watched it today was mesmerised . Was sat on front row practically on Sam West s knee at one point! Was so involved in all the action (Caesar butchered within 6 ft) . Congratulations to all the cast and all involved x

User

Saw wizard of oz at the crucible tonight, absolutely fantastic ! Loved every minute, the seating was spacious, great views no matter where you sit, and the staff were all very helpful and friendly ! If you get chance, go see this brilliant show !

User

Saw the Wizard of Oz last Saturday afternoon and it was absolutely brilliant. This is my favourite film and had the potential to be a huge disappointment for me. It DID NOT disappoint! The space on the stage was used so creatively and it stuck very close to the film. It looked like all involved had worked very hard to make this production the best thing I've seen for a long time.

User

Just returned home from Sheffield Theatre's production of that perennial family favourite The Wizard of Oz. Wow! What a fabuliscious performance by all. Absolutely wonderful cast & production, and a very creative set design added to some wicked modern ad libs linked to the story.

Loved the inclusion of The Jitterbug and some of the original scores. Another hugely enjoyable evening at The Crucible and it makes me proud as a Sheffielder to once again see Sheffield Theatres keeping to their high standards once more.

Well done to all of the team, I'm feeling Christmassy already!

There's no place like home....

User

Julius Caesar - what an incredible interpretation. The energy, aggression, modern setting all worked brilliantly. I've been coming to The Crucible for 30 years and I've seen many great shows over that time, but this is certainly up there with the best of them. Hope you cleared the blood up in time for tonight's show! Well done to all involved - brilliant use of the People's Theatre cast too. Dark and sinister - William Shakespeare would have loved it

User

I saw Seven Brides For Seven Brothers last night and it was amazing. So much joy and talent - the entire cast was top notch. It was a full house and I've never seen so many happy faces as we left the theatre.

User

I loved 'love and information'. Bite-sized mini plays. The cast did an amazing job.

User

I have become a bit of an evangelist about this show telling everyone I know, because it is so fresh and amazing, tackling important issues but providing such a feel good factor. The acting is fantastic and the singing so good. Loving the music. Every single person involved should be so proud to be a part of it. I have laughed and cried through it twice now and would go again and again if I could. I feel so lucky to have seen it. Thank you.

User

Hugely enjoyed Robert Hastie's production of The Wizard of Oz last night @ The Crucible, Sheffield. Remarkable staging & set, which adapted from a rural setting in Kansas, morphing into a tornado, (great work from the cast splaying the debris, tremendous movement & flow) into Dorothy & Toto's adventure on to the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City and en route they meet a Scarecrow that needs a brain (Andrew Langtree) a Tin Man missing a heart, (Max Parker) & a cowardly lion who needs Courage (Jonathan Broadbent) Remarkable nuanced performances from all three, adding humour to despair & some truly special dance sequences & songs which literally swept the audience into the maelstrom. Dorothy~ a remarkable Gabrielle Brooks won hearts & minds with her sparky performance & beautiful renditions of the classics, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, We're Off to See The Wizard, The Jitterbug. We meet Toto as a real dog & Toto morphs into a puppet dog expertly handled by a member of the cast who manages to achieve a life like performance throughout the play (RSPCA Award for Interpretation)

Catrin Aaron (Miss Gulch / Wicked Witch) is also wonderfully cast, achieving the exaggerated cackle to a tee! & manages to irritate the audience with her stuffy Miss Gulch. Sophia Nomvete (Aunt Em / Glinda) has a positive presence within the home & in her regal entrance as Glinda advising & directing Dorothy in her quest. Ryan Ellsworth (Professor Marvel / The Wizard Of Oz) also impresses with his interpretation of two very different characters.

A wonderfully plucky & colourful performance from the young cast of Munchkins delighted.

Praise has to go to Set Design & Dance Choreography which managed to achieve a pulsating yellow brick road, a petrified Forest & an absolutely stunning portrayal of The Jitterbug. The Audience with Oz, with it's mechanical noises & lights was exceptional & so well captured the atmospheric nature of the original film made in 1939 with Judy Garland, Ray Bolger Jack Haley & Bert Lohr. Orchestration from Larry Wilcox enhanced the whole production.

Several encores & loud applause showered this amazing cast

performance & production. What more can I say, except being a #Dorothy~ I clicked my red shoes & I was in Kansas.....

#Kudos to all...#BegBorrowStealATicket😘

Fabulous production of Mama Mia last night. One o four party unable to attend due to weather and was apprehensive as to getting a solution having read these reviews. Box Office staff could not have been more helpful. Rebooking not an option as she did not want to come on her own when weather improves, so they suggested a credit note and I was able to pick it up when we arrived last night.

Thanks Lyceum, only solution in our circumstances and our friend who was so sad to miss the performance, at least has her money (£54.50) back!

User

Everybody's talking about Jamie was quite possibly the best performance I've seen! I laughed a lot!, I cried and I just wanted it to carry on!! Fortunately we managed to see it before it finished it's run but i wish we'd have seen it before the last night as I would have definitely booked to see it again. Looking forward to seeing it again though as I'm sure it'll go on in the future. Congratulations to all!

User

Booked to go watch the snooker for 6 ppl, the day before the event 4 ppl were unable to attend, called the Box office and got straight through to a very helpful member of staff who advised that they could try to resell the tickets to get our money back, I was given details of the e-mail address and the info to provide, within 40mins of sending the e-mail the tickets had been resold and the money refunded, excellent service 5*

User

Absolutely fantastic production of The Wizard of Oz. I took my niece and nephew and we were equally enthralled. Hats off to the stage design team with a special mention to the genius that designed the golden Toto and also his ‘handler’, very realistic

I thought Frost/Nixon was excellent. The acting and direction were first class. They were sadly let down by poor Marketing who had chosen not to order enough programmes due to poor ticket sales. We had prepaid for our programme. It really doesn’t take much to put a name on every prepaid programme for your audience to pick up if you are going to take such a decision. Something similar happened to us at WYP and they sent us one through the post - no such customer service offered. We got a refund but I wanted a programme. Sheffield Theatres get your act together! You had a decent matinee audience and therefore lost a lot of programme sales. Poor planning.

User

Of Kith and Kin. Went to the Public Dress Rehearsal. Witty and well acted but... we were lucky enough to chat to the Director, Robert Hastie, after the performance. Asked him why he put on this particular play.

"He's a young, new playwright, with lots of ideas".

Exactly. Perhaps next time he might be persuaded not to cram quite so many ideas into one play, it might be all the better for it.

User

Seen some fantastic things (5 star plus)at the Crucible in the last couple of years, Julius Caesar was not one of them! Couldn't hear some of the actors when they had their backs turned to us - I know its a thrust stage but this has never been an issue before, where were the microphones? Samuel West seemed in a rush to mumble through his lines, this may work with contemporary dialogue but isn't great for Shakespeare. Staging was pretty dull and unspectacular when compared to the imagination and ingenuity of previous productions. It was good to have some female actors playing some of the lead male roles, Zoe Waites as Cassius was passionate and mesmerising. Nearly didn't go back for the second half, but it was an improvement on the first half which was largely dull. Hoping this is just a glitch, as I really love this theatre.

User

Exactly. Perhaps next time he might be persuaded not to cram quite so many ideas into one play, it might be all the better for it.
