About The Lantern Theatre, Sheffield. Home Of The Dgp

The Lantern Theatre, owned by the Dilys Guite Players, is one of Sheffield’s hidden gems bringing community theatre to the heart of Nether Edge.

The Lantern Theatre, Sheffield. Home Of The Dgp Description

At the Lantern, we look to engage at a local and national level with the latest and greatest to foster a deep and diverse appreciation of creativity and performance.

The Lantern is owed by the charity The Dilys Guite Players (DGP) who are also the in-house community theatre group and everyone is a volunteer. They ensure those with a passion for performance and production can develop and showcase their skills. The DGP produces nine shows each year. Their annual New Writing and Write On! Festivals are a fantastic opportunity for writers to get their work performed on stage.

The Lantern is passionate about high quality, highly varied theatre. It’s also an exciting, intimate venue for live music and touring shows. Having featured Tony and Olivier Award Winning acts on our stage, our reputation for offering unmissable theatre continues to grow.

User

fell in love with this place after discovering in March. Wuthering Heights was excellent but they surpassed themselves last night with Midsummer Nights Dream. Absolutely hilarious - a lot of great talent there. Can't wait for the next performance

User

What a wonderful gem of a theatre, so special. Long may it last!

User

Went to see Gaslight last night. It was a brilliant production in a wonderful theatre. Thanks to everyone involved - it was truly great.

User

This is the second time in 6 months we have been to the Lantern Theatre and certainly won't be our last. A super venue very intimate and a friendly, warm welcome by all staff.

Both productions have been excellent with top performances from the actors. It's an intimate venue, but almost like stepping into the tardis.

The bar is well stocked with some fine craft beers and imported largers (soft drinks and Tea etc), all of which are very reasonably priced.

User

Superb venue, great for live music and a reasonable priced and we'll stocked bar.

User

Shakers: a bit of humour, some pathos, and all very engaging. Recommended. A fun theatre experience, made all the more enjoyable by the theatre itself. Well done to all involved with the production and the running of the venue. A secret too well kept.

User

Managed to get a couple of seats way up in the balcony and quite a few real ales outta bottles doonstairs. Top notch venue.

User

Lovely, quaint, full of charm I love this theatre!

User

Great venue and great performance of Dracula tonight

User

Gorgeous Jewel of a theatre! Great play and cast. Love going there - but make sure you take warm clothes and avoid the icy beer on a cold night!

User

Came to see A Bunch Of Amateurs on Saturday evening.

What a brilliant show.

I really enjoyed it.

A great cast and crew.

First time I have been but will not be the last......

Well done everyone involved.

And, what a lovely unusual theatre.

AND, I gave a huge plug on BBC Radio Sheffield Toby Foster show on Tuesday morning also.

User

Beautiful little theatre. If you live in Sheffield you need to find this little gem of a place.

User

An amazing place with true historical significance. Lovely atmosphere. Well worth a visit!

User

Amazing theatre its like stepping back in time, proper piece of Sheffield history

User

A magical little place that fills up my senses much more than a greasy chip butty ever could. The place oozes character.

User

A beautiful theatre that I feel prove lived to be involved with, both as a performer and an audience member.

User

Saw Steel Magnolias tonight - fabulous! What's the name of the actress who played the role of M'Lynn? She was absolutely incredible and reduced me to tears portraying the raw emotions of a Mother who lost her child... Spectacular acting.

User

Really lovely venue! We commented that it reminded us of being at the fringe in Edinburgh. Very good value and great atmosphere. Just been to see 'A few good men' which is well worth seeing!

User

I love this place and it's a hidden treasure. Reasonably priced and diverse shows, and a beautiful atmospheric building. The only reason I've given it four stars is when I went to a performance last night it was absolutely freezing cold. I, along with lots of others in the audience where wrapped up in coats but I was so cold and uncomfortable it spoilt the experience for me. It certainly won't put me off going but I will wrap up well next time.
