About The Roebuck Inn

Historic country pub in the beautiful Sussex village of Laughton with letting rooms.

The Roebuck Inn Description

The Roebuck Inn is an historic coaching inn with rooms, in the heart of the Sussex countryside where the South Downs meet the woodlands of the Sussex Weald.

We have an extensive range of beers with an emphasis on Sussex Brewers, ably supported by the best small brewers from further afield, and a daily changing menu incorporating wonderful local ingredients, many supplied by our neighbours in the village. All our meat is free-range and we offer an extensive choice of vegetarian dishes. Food is served all day between 12 noon and 9pm Monday to Saturday, and 12 noon until 6pm on Sundays. Sample Menus are available here:

Please phone 01323 811244 to book.

The pub recently re-opened after two years closure, following an extensive refurbishment and is now under the stewardship of Dominic McCartan & Tony Leonard, who also run the award-winning Snowdrop Inn in Lewes.

We have a large pub garden, home to Bramble & Primrose our pet micro-pigs and some happy hens. The stable block has been sympathetically converted into four letting rooms, Bodger’s Den, Dumbledore Garden Room, Mus Reynold’s Parlour and Flindermouse Loft all offer a charming refuge to weary travellers and the perfect base for Sussex visitors alike, and all have en-suite facilities and separate entry from the pub. Booking includes a substantial home-cooked Sussex-sourced breakfast to set you up for the day ahead. All dietary requirements can be catered for with advance notice. For availability and booking, please call: 01323 811244.

Well we didn’t win this year but we were national finalists so that’s pretty good. Saw this as we went in and thought it wasn’t a good sign.

On our way to London for the Great British Pub Awards.

We held our wedding here and had the most amazing day. All the staff from Sally, Dom to the rest of the staff could not have worked harder and all our requests were met with smiles and helpfulness. All our guests were complimentary about the food and service. This was an amazing venue and deserves to continue being successful. The accommodation was exemplary and breakfast awesome and varied. Wish this was our local.........

We had a beautiful time in your Pub! Could park the Triumph TR5 behind the Pub and the chicken were watching me cleaning up the car! The whole accomodation was perfect including best dinner and breakfast! Don't miss the excellent home-made icecream!! Thanks again and until next time :-)

We attended the 'Improving With Age: A Celebration of Mutton' event on 26th September. It was a wonderful evening! The food was excellent; the wines were paired beautifully and our hosts were welcoming, friendly and interesting people to be around.

The food and butchery demonstrations were fascinating and I am hugely looking forward to trying some of the recipes provided, especially that Mutton Dansak! Wow!

The Roebuck never fails me. Wether it's a large group or quiet girly dinner.

It's beautiful and unique in its decor and the menu even as a vegetarian is extensive, high end and local!

And thank you for the amazing service too!

So lucky it's just round the corner. Always a warm welcome from the efficient staff. The menu is always interesting and the food good. Best chips in the world!

Perfect lunch today - such a hot day, refreshing local cider and tasty, ripe, avocado and crayfish tail salad with sour dough toast - yum! Served by genuinely friendly staff, Really original decor inside. lighting is great! Check the jellyfish tank and grand hunting lodge style dining hall and function room. Garden still under construction but looking bright, big and grassy with a lovely view on to a neighbouring field with long flowering grass. looks like there might be an enclosure of some kind in the garden for animals, most definitely retuning.

Our meals were excellent and the staff were friendly and attentive even at the busiest of times. We will return - I can't recommend the Roebuck highly enough. Tip: on colder days try not to get a table close to the door. We didn't but could tell it was maybe an issue for a family that did.

On Saturday evening I was treated to a very special surprise event in the function room. From the start the staff were fantastic , the buffet food was incredible and varied and delicious. The venue is perfect for this sort of party with plenty of room to boogie to the great band and the option to go into the bar for some conversation. My family and friends were full of praise for the staff and I cant thank them all enough for making it such a perfect evening.

Lovely quaint room, very clean and comfortable with lovely welcoming touches. Really enjoyed the breakfast and we found the staff very friendly and helpful. Also loved the garden with the pigs chickens and fish. All in all we had a lovely stay and would recommend to anyone.

Love The Roebuck, it is my local, how lucky am I? The 'staff' are amazing and make visitors or regulars feel so welcome. The food is excellent and the selection of gins, fab! I love the resident pigs Bramble and Primrose and the beautiful free range, happy chickens. Thank you Dominic, Sally, Janet, Grant and everyone else whose names I don't know!

User

Just spent a very pleasant overnight stay. The food was absolutely delicious with tasty local produce and plenty of homemade treats. The room was clean and well presented with all the amenities you could need. Very friendly staff made us feel more than welcome. Will be back!

I've only been once (10/11/16), but would love to go again sometime. Food was very tasty, I had the pork and chorizo sausage roll for my starter and the liver and bacon for my main course, staff were very friendly and helpful, according to my partner the chips were not as amazing as they have been when she has been before, but they were still great to me!!!

User

Hired their big function room for a party. Staff were brilliant at making everything run smoothly. Buffet was excellent. We stayed overnight in their accommodation. Very comfortable rooms with lots of space and luxuries. Breakfast was great too. Highly recommend the Roebuck Inn.

User

Had a lovely meal for two there this evening. Staff really made you feel welcome as soon as you entered, food is delicious and selection of ales, ciders and lagers outstanding. Atmosphere is warming and relaxed and well worth a visit. Country pub but worth travelling to just for the food and warm welcome.

B&B and function room only add reasons for a visit. Well done to the owners and staff for the wonderful transformation of the Roebuck at Laughton.

User

Had a cracking meal at The Roebuck. Good food - excellent lamb chops, great craft beer and loved both the decor and gardens. The Lighting is great and the copper bar makes for a great entrance. Definitely recommend a visit.

User

Great food, nice pub, friendly staff. The extra effort they've put in to the decor, with lots of fun little touches here and there, adds to experience. Good location with easy parking makes it very convenient (by car). Laughton is a lovely village, and the nearby woods nice for walking in. Highly recommended! :)

User

Excellent beer, excellent spirits, excellent food, excellent service, quirky decor. Shame we had to drive or we would have loved to stay and try the extensive range of beers.. says something that I didn't just go straight for the Harvey's!

User

Absolutely superb. Amazing pub with amazing service, food and drinks. Came for Mother’s Day and can’t recommend it enough. I highly recommend the Bakewell tart. By far the best I’ve ever tasted. Would rate it 10 stars if it I could.

User

first visit on a Monday lunchtime - good first impressions. Service professional and friendly, good range of beers. Food was not bad either. And the garden is very attractive. Worth a visit to this Good Beer Guide listed hostelry, only six miles from Lewes
