Pre-school FAQ’s
‘’What if my child needs nappies in the pool?’’
Don’t worry! You can buy a swimming nappy from Reception, especially designed for being in the pool! It is perfectly normal for children who are not fully toilet trained to use nappies in the pool – there’s no need to be embarrassed! 😘

Pre-school FAQ’s 🤔
‘’How do I hold my child?’’
Depending on the age of your child, if they are not supporting their own head you will need to continue to do this for them – however the water does make this easier to support and balance your baby! 👶
... Your swimming teacher will show you how to get in and out of the water whilst holding your baby, and different ways to hold them during the lessons.

Pre-school Swimming Lessons FAQ’s
‘’What if my child won’t get into water?’’
Introducing young children to water at an early age is much easier when they can be fully supported and are able to enjoy close skin to skin contact with their parent or carer.
... However, if your child refuses to get in, simply get your child ready for swimming as normal, get in a safe position on poolside and follow the instructions of the swimming teacher – but always remain calm and patient!

just joined 2 weeks ago now and I really enjoy the feel of the gym its a relaxed atmosphere and the trainers are really helpful and approachable and work out a plan based on what areas you want to focus on. Josh has really helped me so far create a programme and also educated me around diet and nutrition and eating up to your minimum calorie intake (turns out I'm not eating enough). I really enjoy the classes too and I like the fact there is a great range to choose from.

Started going here since it first opened and I haven't got one bad word to say about this place! First of all, the classes are fab and the instructors are amazing!!! I would do body attack, body combat, core stability, cxworks, boxercise, LBT and recently tried abs blast! Kelly, Samantha, Rob, Donovan, Andy were excellent especially Serena who on more than a few occasions would make an effort to push me harder during classes. All the reception team are absolutely lovely, they make an effort to get to know you and are always happy to help and have a natter! Megan has sorted me out a few times in regards to my membership and is absolutely lovely! Despite of the names I've mentioned, all the staff for that matter are excellent. The pool is good and I used it for a nice swim after working out, although It would be nice if there was a sauna and steam room too!!! Also the gym has improved massively since it first opened in regards to equipment. Some people may think the price for a membership here is pricey, however I believe it's worth every penny. If your someone like me that prefers doing classes, and only going in the gym and pool on odd occasions, here is your place! I've had to open up a new membership elsewhere and although it's a little cheaper and you get your bog standard gym that anybody could use, the quality of the classes are poor and overall it is absolutely sh*t compared to thorncliffe!!! Unfortunately it was my last week this week due to a new job working away and moving back to uni in September and I will hand on heart miss this place and I'm so sad to be leaving but one day I will be back

I personally love the gym ...the equipment is upto date ..the area is clean and well set out ..the instructors are always on hand to help and advise....the pool is basic but functional and clean changing rooms are great ...I have attended classes at the health centre and found them to be good although some class instructors don't take into account that new people to the class are not upto speed with the rest of the class which can be a bit off putting at first ...A great place...

I feel very at home there. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. They are also very knowledgeable and supportive. The gym and studios are well equipped as is the pool.

One problem I have is with the website. I find it difficult to book classes via this as I can't find an up to date timetable. Also the phone app will not let me register stating my email address is already being used. I have a joint membership with my husband so this could be the cause.

My husband had a heart attack 10 years ago and is having to go through cardiac rehab induction for this gym. This is totally inappropriate for him. He has been attending another gym ever since his MI, on the advice of his Cardiologist, but had to have another form signed. Every case should be assessed individually not one size fits all.

Having said all this I really love my time there!

Had my daughter's birthday party here yesterday, we has the inflatable in the pool and it was absolutely fantastic all the kids thoroughly enjoyed it and the staff were fab couldn't do enough to help and advise. Thanks again xx

Hi there, I used Chapeltown baths for both my sons swimming lessons and for the water babies on a Tuesday with Sheila.

My son is enjoying the lessons, he is in stage 1 so in the shallow pool, I do however feel this is to no benefit to him as he can touch the bottom of the pool and has opted out of swimming. I do think the instructor is good and teaches well but feel this is now a step back.

Water babies - where to start!!! The one at Chapeltown was great, Sheila got in the water and it was very interactive but on an informal level. The children loved this and was a bit of added reassurance. The first 2 weeks were in the shallow pool which was very hard on the adults. This week it was in the big pool, a lot better however there is still something missing that gave the class it's special element, that is not having Sheila in the water. It's very hard to follow as you can hear what's been taught and I don't think you get as much out of the session like you used to. You may as well go to a public session and sing your songs!!

Have to vent my frustration at both the app and the website, not been to the gym for a while so not had the pleasure of testing them out. I'm no technophobe but believe me they are not easy to navigate! App doesn't seem to want to let me book classes, the website decides when I choose swimming timetable to show me the bottom the page with just general thorncliffe info! It didn't used to be that hard, what's happened??? Poor reception staff must be fed up answering phone for these basic queries!!! Sort it out People for Places!!

Dear Mr Walker (manager),

I have visited Thorncliffe for the first time today and I feel I need to pass on my thoughts. Unfortunately, they aren't great.

We have been taking our little girl to Chapeltown baths for her swimming lessons for a while now and the number one thing that made those baths special was the upper level seating. You could see everything during the lesson, you felt engaged and part of the lesson. I could give a reassuring thumbs up and was able to give positive or even negative feedback to her after the lesson because i'd seen it all unfold.

I arrived at Thorncliffe today to find the most inadequate seating and viewing arrangements. I managed to get in the closest seat to the main pool but could still barely see anyone having their lesson. I sat there feeling totally detatched from my girls swimming lesson.

I cannot imagine the people who signed off the design of the new facility a) ever visited Chapeltown baths or b) took the time to speak to any parent who took their child there for lessons.

I've gone from enjoying taking my little girl to her lessons to feeling totally dejected in just one 30 minute session this morning.

As for that shoe covering plastic bag malarky, what a pain in the backside trying to get a 4 year old, a 6 year old and a bunch of bags with swimming gear into the changing rooms having to put those on. Surely that cannot last?

I don't usually resort to emails like this, but I really do feel that someone has cocked up badly here. It might have been falling apart at the seams, but Chapeltown had some really good things about it that just don't seem to have been thought about or transferred over.

Both my children went to water babies at chapeltown .when it moved up to high green I was appalled! I'm no longer allowed to take my oldest one in the holidays so all people with older children cannot participate .the changing rooms there's always some woman telling you off for not rounding all the children up and sitting them down to put shoe covers on.the children's classes run over and were asked to stand away from the pool and wait.its not the first complaint I've put in! They can stick my business where the sun doesn't shine from now on.i was going to put my little one on for lessons but I'll take my money elsewhere.none of the staff know anything they all tell you different things! It's the most unorganised,in friendly,in welcoming place I've ever known! I will not be spending a penny there ever again !
