About Wentworth Woodhouse

One of the largest houses in Europe, now embarking on a major restoration project.

Wentworth Woodhouse Description

Wentworth Woodhouse is a Grade 1 listed country house in the village of Wentworth, South Yorkshire. With an east front of 185 meters, this impressive mansion is reputed to have the longest country house facade in Europe. The history of Wentworth Woodhouse, as well as the village of Wentworth, is inextricably linked with the history of the great aristocratic families - the Wentworths, Watsons and Fitzwilliams - who presided over it for generations. Wentworth Woodhouse is now open to the public for pre-booked tours and also runs a variety of events throughout the year. For more details, check our website or call the office on 01226351161

The Christmas Market is starting to take shape outside! We're looking forward to seeing the tipi completed as it will be home to our bar and a huge stash of mulled wine 🍷
Be sure to bring some cash with you to the Christmas Market this weekend, as the Wentworth Woodhouse bar and shop in the tipi will be cash-only.
There will be a card reader available indoors in the tearoom/shop and some of the independent stall holders will have card readers available. However, we advise you... bring cash with you as some areas are cash-only and there aren't any ATMs close by.
The Christmas Market is advance-ticket only and tickets can still be purchased via our website at www.wentworthwoodhouse.org.uk/events or by giving us a call on 01226 351161.

Visit Wentworth Woodhouse this weekend and prepare to be wowed by the antiques, fine art, sculptures and furniture on display with GallowayFairs.
One of the items being exhibited is this exquisite Rockingham Table fitted with Rockingham porcelain plaques.
This table first appeared on the open market at Tennants Saleroom in Richmond on 21 November 1979. It was fully described and was stated to have reputedly been part of the Rockingham Castle collection until 1948/49 when it w...ent into a private collection.
The general consensus is that the table was constructed under the direction of Dale c.1838 at the Rockingham Works using a fine Geo 11 tripod base from the Castle collection. The new table top was fitted with six radiating Rockingham porcelain plaques of incredible quality showing alternate panels of butterflies and flying insects and fine flower bouquets within cartouches of profuse gilding alongside a royal blue ground.
All existing documentation will be shown with the table at the antiques fair on 23/24/25 November at Wentworth Woodhouse.

The talk will now take place in the magnificent Marble Saloon, where Peter will be speaking about the Big House using the family papers, drawings and early Country Life photographs.
This illustrated talk looks to reimagine the splendour of this spectacular house and to highlight the challenges facing the new Wen...tworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust.

We are incredibly proud to have hosted the launch of the Athena International Awards this afternoon. Organised by Women in Business, part of the Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce, these awards recognise and honour exemplary leaders, who lead with integrity and values, in addition to supporting women achieve their leadership potential.
Today's event celebrated the life of Lady Mabel of Wentworth (1870-1951), a socialist, an educationalist, a feminist and influential c...hange agent of her time. She founded the Lady Mabel College at Wentworth Woodhouse (1950-1979) to train female education teachers.
Ten ladies who attended the Lady Mabel College, and now all volunteer at Wentworth Woodhouse, were invited to speak and answer questions at the celebratory lunch in the Long Gallery, alongside the women who are now leading the transformation of Wentworth Woodhouse, Chair Julie Kenny and CEO Sarah McLeod.
