About 1004 Pontypridd Squadron, Atc

Official Facebook page of 1004 (Pontypridd) Squadron, Air Training Corps, part of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets.

1004 Pontypridd Squadron, Atc Description

Where else could you learn to fly aerobatics, under instruction from current and ex RAF servicemen, visit Royal Air Force Stations, tour foreign countries, partake in sports from local to International level, learn the skills to lead expeditions, become a Target Rifle Shooter, gain your Duke of Edinburgh's Awards, assist your community, learn aviation subjects and get BTEC qualifications to prove the knowledge, go caving, parachuting, climbing, sailing and skiing
These are just a few activities and experiences you could have as part of the ATC, along with gaining invaluable experience and personal development.

There is no obligation to join the Royal Air Force but many Air cadets do go on to do so, finding their ATC training useful during their basic service training.

A great story which highlights the importance of one of the many activities available to cadets.

To change things up from our standard training programme; this past week the cadets were given an inter-flight #STEM challenge by the OC to design and build a 1m span load-bearing bridge using Stixx (rolled up newspapers using Stixx machines).
No.1 Flight had won this challenge, with a bridge that could carry 2.5kg for over 2minutes before failing. Well done!

Yesterday four cadets managed to get up into the air despite the poor weather, three of them were first time fliers. Despite the poor weather, the cadets still enjoyed themselves.
We also had ex 1004 cadet, Flt Lt T. Nation as one of the pilots which was a treat!

This past weekend the squadron had conducted another promotion board to build on our current NCO structure.
The process started weeks ago with several cadets applying to OC 1004 for promotion; utilising application writing skills which are required in later life. The applications were then sifted before successful candidates were invited to the Boards, to sit through assessments and interviews.
Now we wait for a few weeks before announcing our successful candidates and additi...ons to the NCO team.
Many thanks to No 1 Welsh Air Cadets Wing Training Officer, Sqn Ldr Jones, and FS Ballinger of 1344 (Cardiff) Squadron ATC for their assistance this weekend.

On behalf of Ridgena Mills, mother of Cadet Katie-Jo Davies:
❤ My sister Keturah (Nikkita's Mam) & myself, Ridgena along with Rhian (Katie-Jo's sister) and two of my granddaughters released balloons for all four of our angels yesterday. We lit candles with love & painful memories on this, their ten year anniversary. Our thoughts and prayers are with both pilots & their families as we do this every year for them. It may be another year but to us, it was another hard day.
Many thanks to Karen Gough & all at 1004 (Pontypridd) Squadron who have always continues supporting both my sister & I since that tragic day. God Bless You All & God Bless Hylton Price, Andrew Marsh & Our Angels Nikkita & Katie-Jo Rock on Our Ladybirds! <3 <3 ❤
