*NEW YEAR'S DAY DIP NOTICE*
Some things are clearly Black and White!
This year the fancy dress theme for the RNLI New Year’s Day Dip is ‘Black and White’, so you can look forward to seeing penguins, dalmatians and zebras, amongst others, dashing across the Abersoch main beach at 12 noon on New Year’s Day.
... We hope that everybody will make an heroic effort to raise as much money as possible, as all money raised will go directly to the RNLI to help ensure that our local crew can be equipped with the best equipment, clothing and training when they go out to sea in any weather.
It is expected that if you join the Dip you will raise some money for the crew, who will be on and in the water at the event to look after everybody’s safety, so to take part a sponsorship form is needed. Sponsorship forms are available in the village at Abersoch Boatyard and Abersoch Watersports shop and will be available at the tent on the beach on the day.
If you intend to join in the fun, or to watch and support, it is essential that you allow sufficient time to get through the traffic to get onto the beach before 12 o’clock. Each year we have seen disappointed people who didn’t manage to arrive in time for the Dip; we cannot delay the event as it would leave people waiting in the cold.
After the Dip hot showers will be available in SCYC, where The Cove will also be open to everybody, serving a hog roast, BBQ, soup, cocktails and mulled wine.

Ever wondered how many times the #RNLI #Lifeboats launch in a year?
https://www.rnlivideolibrary.org.uk/play/ AblpUIyQ
Each Blue dot in the video represents the location of where a lifeboat launched to (not the location of the lifeboat station).... If a “picture tells a thousand words”, then we’re hoping this video can help us shout from the roof tops what the #RNLI does in just one year.

An emotional return to station today for Gary & his family
You may remember a rescue back in 2013 which featured in Series 1 of Saving Lives at Sea. Gary returned to present a cheque & thank the crew who saved his life. Introducing his two daughters who he says would not exist without him being rescued. We love it when casualties return to say thank you & feel this one was extra special.
Follow the link to see whether you agree with him. You can see more rescues from the RN...LI tomorrow when Series 3 of Saving Lives at Sea returns to BBC 2 at 8pm.

We can’t stress this enough if you see someone in trouble around the coast call 999 & ask for the COASTGUARD!!!!
Only 1/5th of people will & we have already heard of incidents this year in the bay where an emergency response was required & not asked for.

Abersoch RNLI Sponsored Bike Ride Abersoch RNLI is once again holding a Sponsored Bike Ride for keen cyclists and family groups. As in previous years, this is a non-competitive cycling event starting and finishing in the centre of Abersoch at The Vaynol. All money raised from the event will go towards Abersoch RNLI fundraising. The ride will be on Sunday 7th October and riders will be able to start at any time, of their choosing, between 9:00 and 11:00am. There are four ro...utes: a 40 mile route, with 3,067 feet of climbing, for experienced cyclists; a shorter 30 mile route, with 2,342 feet of climbing, for those seeking less of a challenge; and two shorter routes of 15 or 9½ miles, for families and those looking for an easier ride. 14-15 year olds may ride unaccompanied on the 15 and 9½ mile routes with parental permission. Under 14 years must be accompanied by an adult on the 15 and 9½ mile routes. All routes are tried and tested by local riders and designed around our beautiful North West Wales Llŷn peninsula and were planned to accommodate the riding abilities of all participants. There is be an individual entry fee of £10 with a requirement to raise at least £15 in sponsorship, or for families an entry fee of £15 with a requirement to raise a minimum of £25 in sponsorship. We hope that all entrants will raise as much money as possible to support the wonderful volunteers who man our lifeboat in all weathers. All those who finish the course will receive a commemorative medal and slate coaster. Registration and entry will open at the Vaynol at 8:45am, but riders will not be released to start until 9:00am.

Abersoch RNLI were paged at 3.01pm yesterday to an emergency call of 2 persons missing in the water following jet ski activities. The Lifeboat launched at 3.11pm and proceeded to Carreg y trai (half tide rocks), to start the search with other vessels in the area assisting. Abersoch Coastguard and the Rescue helicopter were also tasked. The two people missing were found by a passing vessel and their jet ski who had joined the search at around 3.38 and passed to the Lifeboat... for first aid. One of the casualties was extremely cold, they had been missing in the water for over 40 minutes, the Lifeboat returned with the casualties to the station and the decision was made to land the helicopter for the onboard paramedic to assess them. After warming up at the station, they were able to return home. Happy ending with lots of great team work with the other agencies.
