On this day, 18 June 1984, the battle of Orgreave took place when striking miners faced off against thousands of police as they attempted to blockade the Orgreave coking plant. The police showed the lengths they would go to to break the strike, with violent attacks, mass arrests and deliberate but fortunately unsuccessful attempts to fabricate evidence and frame miners. And the BBC reversed footage of miners defending themselves from police attacks to try to pretend police were attacked first.
The struggles of the working class will never be forgotten in this Club.....

ŌØŻ’ĖÅŌØŻ’ĖÅŌØŻ’ĖÅOne Village - One Love ŌØŻ’ĖÅŌØŻ’ĖÅŌØŻ’ĖÅ
There is a shadow of Grief and Sadness cast over the whole Village at this time, due to recent bereavements which have affected everyone..
For us to lose so many in such a short time is indeed tragic, and for one family to have lost two much loved and much respected is beyond words..Mr.Fradd,Gary and Philip - our hearts ache for your loss and you have the Villages sincere condolences at this time...
... We all have a part to play now,we all have to show the true spirit of this Village. Just by asking each other how you are feeling, supporting each other with acts of kindness and helping each other when called upon....
Belonging to a Village like the one we have,we benefit greatly from the inspiration, influence, and individuality of others, and also gain from being part of one big family..But we also suffer enormous losses and feel these losses very deeply. For all the positives we gain, we also surrender to great sorrows throughout our lives simply due to the enormity of our collective...
If you are from the Village, you would have been brought up this way,if you have moved to the Village, then this is who we are...

It is with much sadness that we have to inform all our Followers that the Club, indeed the whole Village, has bid farewell to one of our popular members - Philip Pumford
Philip was a much loved and well respected patron of the Club, who formed a formidable team with his beloved wife Marion who we also sadly miss.
Philip was a true gentleman and was always approachable if we needed anything, and he will always be remembered with fondness..
... Goodbye old friend,it was a pleasure to have known you ŌØż’ĖÅ

DID YOU KNOW that Mount Everest was named after a Welshman?
In 1865, Everest was given its official English name by the Royal Geographical Society upon a recommendation by Andrew Waugh, the British Surveyor General of India. Waugh named the mountain after his predecessor in the post, Sir George Everest.
Colonel Sir George Everest (July 4, 1790 ŌĆö December 1, 1866) from Crickhowell was a Welsh surveyor and geographer, and the Surveyor General of India from 1830 through 1843.......
