About Abmyouth

'ABMyouth' are a group of 20 young people from across South Wales who are dedicated to improving health services for children and young people. Established in November 2016, 'ABMyouth' are the first youth action panel working within the Welsh NHS. Our volunteers represent the voice of children and young people within the ABMU Health Board. We take a children's rights based approach paying special attention to Article 12 of the UNCRC - every child has the right to form their own views and freely express their opinions on matters that affect their own lives. Adults must give the child's opinion due weighting. We project children and young people's thoughts on the health issues that matter most to them and make sure that adults listen by reporting directly to ABMU's executive board. This ensures young people are involved at a decision making level. Working directly with NHS staff enables us to create positive change and have a real impact on the health services that young people use. Our team is made up of young people between the ages of 13 and 23 who all bring unique skills and qualities - we have members who have experience of being a patient, others volunteer with St Johns Ambulance and many plan to go on to become nurses, pharmacists and doctors. While everyone comes from a different background, the thing we all have in common is a passion for making health services meet the real needs of children and young people in 2017.
