About Abuse Survivors Fortitude Project

#FortitudeProject is a non-profit photography campaign expressing the thoughts feelings & experiences of Abuse Survivors #PhotographyisTherapy

Abuse Survivors Fortitude Project Description

Survivors of Abuse * Collaboration of Expression * Visual Campaign of Awareness * Therapeutic power of Photography

On this page, we will share Stories and information about Abuse Survivors in the hopes of helping and supporting Survivors through their Journey. Whilst continually campaigning for the respect and understanding of all Abuse Survivors. Finally, we will actively Raise Awareness.

The aim of the Fortitude project is to use Photography as a tool to express the thoughts feelings and experiences of collaborating abuse Survivors. This could potentially consist of Portraiture, Still Life,
Landscape, fine art & Reportage. The Photographer’s experiences as a Survivor put her in a unique position, to be able to understand the fundamental thoughts and feelings of fellow Survivors, to understand the therapeutic power of photography and have the technical skill to be their tool of expression.
This experience will help the communication between “photographer” and Survivor, which may in some situations be somewhat difficult, her own experiences will allow her to connect with the Survivor and understand their story and personal aims for the Fortitude Project
without extensive details and questions, making it a more comfortable experience allowing the focus to be solely on the expressive and therapeutic aims of the project.
By the end of the Project, each Survivor collaborator will walk away with not only a series of personal and expressive images that have empowered them and an introduction to the creative expression which helps them connect with and process the truth of their thoughts feelings and experience. They will understand the therapeutic power of expressing through photography and potentially be able to incorporate that into their everyday self-care.
Those that decide to share their visual Story online will have the knowledge that their experiences will help other survivors without
a voice and become part of the visual campaign of raising awareness.

No other words Say it better than;
#ThisIsMe
"I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I'm meant to be, this is me
Look out 'cause here I come
And I'm marching on to the beat I drum
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me"

*Disclaimer; THE PROJECT IS NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR
PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT OR CARE.

I've been working on the #CognizanceSeries of the #FortitudeProject
My visit to #Newcastle brought with it a reminder of my fascination with bridges, I couldn't remember the city details much accept the bridges and metro land, but as I seen pieces of these bridges harmoniously appear amoung these old majestic buildings a familiarity set in! My memories at home may be of a child's acceptance that the heightened alertness created by domestic abuse was normal living, but the fo...nd memories of school becoming the foundations of a resourceful coping mechanism, visits to the city during this period were strongly connected to visits from my grandparents who were the foundations of the love and safety that most people's childhoods are created by parents. I felt a strong connection to this city!
These jigsaw peices of my life fit like the peices of the bridges fit around the city.

Follow my Journey as I re-visit childhood memories with a new perspective,
I re-claim these memories accepting all the truths that come with them,
"The good, the bad & the ugly"!
These are my memories re-visited after my cognizance
2017 onward.

The river scape has changed but those bridges are an unchanging feature, that feel as solid as the foundations of the person I am today.
