ACT 1 Theatre Group was formed in March 2008 and is run entirely by volunteers. The aim of the group is to perform shows, musicals and plays involving children and young people. We will teach you all the requirements for music, drama and dance. Our debut production, Bugsy Malone was staged at The Parc Hall Theatre Cwmparc in July 2008. It was a great start for us being a Sell out!
Since then we have grown from strength to strength.
As well as performing shows at the Phoenix Theatre, we also perform Pantomimes & concerts around other local venues.

One of Act 1's big achievements was to perform extracts of their interpretation of "Billy Elliot" at "The Victoria Palace Theatre", London after successfully getting through the regional finals of the Billy Youth Theatre at "The Lighthouse Theatre" in Poole, Dorset.

We are very pleased to announce that our current season of shows, Including Peter Pan Jr By ACT1 Jr is being supported by a generous grant from the Pen Y Cymoedd Wind Farm Community Fund. The fund has been established by energy company Vattenfall for the benefit of the communities hosting the Pen Y Cymoedd Wind Farm. This grant will not only allow us to improve the experience of all our members and patrons but will also allow us to improve the facilities of our home venue The Phoenix Ton Pentre for all the users of the theatre. Thanks to Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm Community Fund CIC.

... We’re very excited to have been given permission to put the show on having performed the amateur European Premier at the Phoenix in 2014!
The production will be in November (at the Phoenix) and more details will follow shortly!! Please keep an eye on our page for more information!

ACT 1 are very pleased and proud to announce that the second ACT 1 Jr production will be...Disney’s, Peter Pan Jr. The show takes flight this July so keep an eye for more information!! Unfortunately, membership if currently not open to new members but tickets will be on sale soon and membership will open again in September.

And thats Panto all done for another year! Just the last coat of paint to finish and its like we were never here! (Except a bit of glitter and a few stray feathers). Therefore, we are pleased to introduce you to Rhea Hughes, who will be playing the part of the Princes trusted servant - Dandini!
Rhea first took to the stage 11 years ago in Selsig Musical Theatre Society’s production of ‘We Will Rock You’ and she has never left since! She first joined ACT 1 Th...eatre Group in 2013 to play Madam Giri in ‘The Phantom of the Opera’. She has taken many leading roles since, with her favourite being Mollie in ‘Ghost the Musical’. More recently, she played the role of Velma Kelly in ‘Chicago’ and brought the house down with her fantastic performance!

Dress rehearsal is complete!! Therefore, we would like to introduce you to the wonderfully talented Ben Skym & Keelan Jones! They will both be playing the role of ‘Buttons’ this week on alternate nights.
Ben has been a member of ACT 1 Theatre Group for 5 years and you might recognise him from roles such as Knuckles in ‘Bugsy Malone’, King Julian in ‘Madagascar’, Peter in ‘Peter Pan’, the Tinman in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and of course, his outstanding performance as Buddy in ‘Elf ...The Musical Jr’.
Keelan joined act 1 when he was just 8 years old with his first show being ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. In his time at ACT 1, Keelan has taken many leading roles such as Dodger in ‘Oliver’, Zeke in ‘Madagascar’, Uncle Henry in ‘The Wizard of Oz’, Tommy the Cat in ‘Dick Whittington’ and not forgetting his impressive performance as Gavroche in ‘Les Miserables’.
