cARTrefu: Exhibition Announcement
We're delighted to announce that we will be exhibiting work by all 12 of our artists at the Courtyard in Hereford on Wednesday 14 November 5:30pm – 7:30pm.
We’ll be launching our very own custom-built exhibition space, the cARTrefu cube; a cross-art form and immersive platform for our artists to present their provocative artwork, re-examining the idea of ‘home’.
... We’d love for you to join us. For more information and details on where to book, please visit our website - http://bit.ly/cARTrefuExhibition

We had a fantastic time this morning at our Age Positive Week Nordic Walking events. We held two walks in Cardiff Bay and Llanelli, which was attended by more than 50 people at each event.
Thank you to Wetherspoons in Cardiff Bay and Cardiff International Pool for allowing us to host our event and for providing refreshments to our walkers.
What a fitting way to celebrate Age Positive Week with our fantastic Nordic Walking instructors and our brilliant walkers, oldest of which... is 88 years old, and walks twice a week and is also involved in LIFT (Low Impact Functional Training) and Tai Chi. Truly inspirational.
Thank you to everyone involved for making both events a real success.

Grandmother Olive has written a special letter for each of her grandchildren for their 21st birthdays, before her memories fade 💜
Olive said she knows there will come a time when she won’t recognise her grandchildren’s faces. Before that happens, she wants to make sure she’s written letters for all of her children and grandchildren.
Says Olive, “You just never know which part of your brain will go first but I will enjoy today and worry about tomorrow later.”

Meet 94-year-old twins and avid Disney fans, Ella and Nora.
The pair will be celebrating their 95th birthday in style next week, by attending Disney On Ice as VIP guests.
When told that they would be receiving this special birthday treatment, Nora joked, "I nearly fainted!"
... The sisters are inseparable, having moved into next door bungalows 25 years ago when their husbands died so they could support one another.
Have a wonderful time ladies 🙌

We’re delighted to announce we’ve appointed Dr Malcolm Fisk as our new Chair for the next four years.
Dr Fisk has extensive experience of working with older people having set up Wales’ first Care and Repair Service in the Rhondda, where he has lived for the past 35 years. He also chaired the Welsh Government’s National Partnership Forum for Older People that helped shape the Strategy for Older People and establish the Office of the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales.
“I am... under no illusions that leading this charity for the next four years will be a huge undertaking as we look for answers to some very difficult questions such as how should Wales establish a fair and effective system for care at home and in care settings. We also want our health and social services working together more effectively so that older people are not stranded on hospital wards waiting for a care package that will return them safely to their communities.
We will work with local and central governments to help make Wales more accessible and age friendly, offering both opportunities and basic services that are necessary for all of us to live fulfilled lives.
“And of course we will continue to celebrate the huge contributions that older people make to Welsh communities everyday whether as child minders enabling family members to continue working, older workers offering younger colleagues their experience and expertise, or as volunteers running sports and social clubs the length and breadth of the country.”

The main reason people call Age Cymru Advice is to check if they're getting everything they're entitled to. Are you?
Every year, it’s estimated that billions of pounds of state benefits intended for people on low incomes goes unclaimed by older people. Our 'More money in your pocket' guide can help.
If you’re 60 or over, you could be entitled to benefits that you haven’t been able to claim before. These can help you keep your independence and improve your standard of living b...y helping with housing costs, care needs or general day-to-day living expenses.
So it’s well worth reading through this guide to see whether you’re claiming all that you’re due.

Meet 95 year old Margaret McNeil, who has produced more than 350 drawings and paintings despite being registered blind.
Margaret uses her sense of touch and memories to produce the works of art.
After her husband George died in 1994, a friend invited Margaret along to art classes. She met local artist and teacher Duncan Brown, who encouraged her to keep up her passion for painting, despite her deteriorating sight.
... Says Margaret, "When I lost the sight in my left eye Duncan said I mustn’t give up. I’ve done all the paintings from memory which sounds daft. I can’t do as much as I used to but I get there.”
Margaret enjoys recreating landscapes, with trees and flowers. “I give them away to friends and to people for raffles and fundraisers.”
How inspirational is Margaret ❤️

Thank you Age Cymru for looking after my Mum.

Your Handyvan Man Sean has been twice this week and fitted a chain lock and draft excluders to the door(s), replaced the shower arm, fitted new lightbulbs plus much more.

He did all this with a smile on his face and a cheery disposition, which made my mum feel comfortable and safe.

A job extremely well done, going over and above, and twice refusing a ‘thank you’ tip, and suggesting a donation to your charity instead.

It’s lovely for me to know someone else is looking out for her, thank you

Great job to support the senior citizens. Well done.

Just saw your leader on TV where he referred to state pensions as a benefit, twice. He needs to rethink his language.
