My Grandfather, William Goodliffe Akister, was one of the 'Salford pals' in the Lancashire Fusiliers, in WW1. Did any of your ancestors serve during the first world war, too? (He was one of the lucky ones who made it home)
It is fun tracking down the 'detail'... My Dad attended this school in the 1930's. Although there's been a change of ownership... there's not much changed to the building! I wonder if my Dad would recognize if he were still alive?
The first point of research nowadays is Ancestry, Familysearch, Find My Past, My Heritage...
But years ago it used to be St Catherine's House, or our local family history centre, where we would scroll through micro films / fiche. Who remembers the 'good olde days'?
Thank you to all who have liked my page so far, if you could share it with you friends, too, that would be great!
They are out there and they need help, if you know anyone who wants help with their family history research, please point them in my direction... I am here to help!!
There's something special about actually visiting an ancestor's grave especially if in France - died 1915.
please like my page.
It is amazing what you can find when looking for something else: I had no idea that there were photos on military index cards, but they certainly did in the case of my grandfather from Scotland - he looks so like my Uncle John, but then he is his son so you'd expect similarities...
