Wonderful place, fascinating for all of us, and very disability friendly-- hooray for providing a Changing Places!
We really liked it there; Well laid out and taken account of small people/wheelchairs. Great range of exhibits and interesting notation. The art collection was surprisingly broad and well curated. Coffee shop clean and reasonable, fun gift shop; staff pleasant but let us wander at our leisure. Would come again.
The ExploRAR was superb.. every child would love the dinosaurs coming to life and personally loved standing within Monet's painting.. this exhibition medium brought history to life.. brought the museum to life.. was both breathtaking and in the case of the dinosaurs moving around thrilling!! Am planning another visit
My kids love it here. Friendly staff. Very informative. Fingers crossed some new exhibits this year.
Just come back from Earth Hour , what an amazing night. My son absolutely loved all the information that was on offer and learnt loads from seeing pollen under a microscope, making a lantern, fossils, playing a game about extinction, fish and creatures under the sea which we can eat. Thank you we had a lovely time.
I was really blown away by Cardiff Museum when I visited yesterday! The natural history section is laid out very nicely with the chronological order and walk-through, and it is very interested to learn the place of Wales throughout too. There is a wide collection of taxidermy which is something I always enjoy seeing too. I had no idea about the extent of the art gallery either, which was great! It was good to see some Bacon, and other similar artists in the gallery. The selection was wide and presented very well. We didn't get the chance to see absolutely everything and I cannot wait to come back!
I took my nephews & niece there on a rainy, windy summer's day (age range 6 years - 6 months) and they all loved it. It was so interactive with the dressing up & the buttons to push. The little boys loved the dinosaur exhibition. Even the baby enjoyed all the different colours and lights! A great afternoon for the whole family!
I took my grandchildren aged 4&5they loved it especially Digging for fossils I felt it could have more to do for little ones for the money but gd experience they were happy gift shop reasonable too
I only had time for a quick scoot round the Natural History sections, but I could see what a treat awaits me when I go back with more time - very good displays accessible at all levels.
Had a fabulous day at the museum, what an impressive collection. I also LOVED the 'Who Decides' exhibit - what a great idea.
Great day out visiting Cardiff and the museum yesterday, friendly staff in the sea life section, our daughter got praised for her manners which was lovely. Lots to see and we all enjoyed
Beautiful, stunning amazing place to visit... breathtaking
As a wedding planner, I work with venues all across Wales and the South West of England. I had the pleasure of working yet again at National Museum Wales, Cardiff for my clients' wedding on Saturday and am incredibly grateful to the team for ensuing that everything went so well. My clients had a fantastic day and I am ever grateful to have the opportunity to work in such a beautiful venue with such a helpful and friendly team! Thank you and looking forward to the next event! Always enjoy a visit here it is a shame it isn't opened on a Monday but the fact it is free and bursting with variety in a good location I really can't complain, cafè, nice toilets, a well stocked gift shop, friendly staff and kids activities make this a perfect place to visit in school holidays.
A fantastic museum, filled with all the staples of a good museum visit! Dinosaurs, art, pottery, animal history, rocks + minerals............. A great day out - and it's FREE ENTRY TOO!
Museum great as always. New dinosaur exhibition over priced and disappointingly small. The normal dinosaur bit is much better. Very disappointed. Only spent half hour max in the display. Only one genuine fossil. Don't waste your money.
Went for a quick visit yesterday with my family. The giant claws drew us in, and we enjoyed the main welsh exhibition, and a couple of the other rooms. The only real let down was the restaurant; it was filthy, food all over the floor and tables either not cleared or left dirty. We didn't realise this until we'd ordered. paid and went looking for somewhere to sit, otherwise we'd have left. To top it all we waited 35 minutes for our food, and when I went to ask where it was the staff member went into the kitchen and brought back a lukewarm plate which had clearly been sat around for a while. Not impressed. Definitely recommend the museum, but would avoid the restaurant at all costs.
They have fantastic things on all the times the only reason for the lower rating is the lift to get in is like a oven in this heat being made of glass you should really consider a simple cover over the top to keep it shaded should help with the heat I'm just glad I only need it for the pushchair
My husband and I took my 7 year old daughter yesterday and what a disappointment the baby dinosaur exhibition was. Very over priced to get in and not much to see apart from a few dinosaur skeletons that we had already seen for free in the main part of the museum. A few activities available but aimed mainly at younger children. Don't waste your money just visit the main part and see the dinosaurs and other exhibits for free....
