Being in lockdown places the emphasis on coming out of it, as we will eventually do so. Carrying on with preparing for that moment is by planning now to get ready for when the UK opens for business once again. So, this morning, I took part in a zoom lecture on Marketing Psychology with over 70 people from around Wales. 90 minutes of brushing up on skills forgotten and incorporating new ones into the tools I already have. One of the better things I have taken part in over the last 4 weeks.

During some emergency callouts I have attended, I have been asked as to why I'm cleaning the work area of the door that I am working on (handles, cylinders and immediate area). The reason is because transmission of a virus can also be done by touch.
How many think about the first thing you should do when entering your property is wash your hands prior to touching anything else in the house?
The short answer is not many, hence why I disinfect before and after the work has been completed.

TIP OF THE DAY Fri 3 Apr 20:
Your uPVC pr composite door should be of a three star rating. This is normally achieved with your cylinder, handles or a combination of both.
The simplest way is to use a three star British Standard cylinder. Another way is to use a one star British Standard cylinder with 2 star rated handles.
... It's all about security and protecting the weakest point of the door.

TIP OF THE DAY Thu 02 Apr 20:
If you have a mortice lock in an external door it should be a British Standard mortice lock. Just because you have a 5 lever mortice lock, it doesn't make it British Standard. The compliance for a British Standard lock is as follows:
MUST HAVE:
... 5 levers 20 mm throw on the bolt Curtained keyway (anti-pick) A hardplate on both of the external sides of the mortice lock casing making it drill resistant.
This is what makes a mortice lock British Standard. Some insurers insist on it so it would be wise to check.

TIP OF THE DAY Wed 01 April 20:
Take a look at your locks if you have a uPVC or composite door. The end of the lock (cylinder should be flush - 3mm for it to be effective from being "snapped out" during an attempted break-in.

These days, most insurers will insist on a 1 or 3 star British Standard rating for cylinders. Invariably, these come in the form of dimple keys, and like every other key, at a given point you're going to need more to be keys cut.
