I work mainly in Pastels and sometimes in Acrylics.

Pastels sometimes get a bad press as an inferior medium or confused with "chalk". In fact pastels are pure pigment that are held together with binders. The softer the pastel the less binder there is in the stick. I work with a combination of soft and hard pastels, depending what look I am after. Animal portraits work well with a pastel pencil on top to add details to fur and whiskers for example. Landscapes tend to be more soft pastel, with occasional hard pastel for fine line details on buildings etc.

Some of the papers I work on don't need to be fixed, and some can be worked over with water like a watercolour painting. To me this makes pastels one of the most versatile mediums you can work with.

My prints are produced by a local printer as Giclee prints. They are printed on watercolour paper, and are colour matched to the orgiinal. They are light fast and won't fade!
