Assuming Gender

About Assuming Gender

Assuming Gender is a Cardiff University project, comprising a journal, seminar, and lecture series. http://www. assuminggender.com

Assuming Gender Description

Assuming Gender is an electronic journal dedicated to the timely analysis of constructions of gendered texts, practices, and subjectivities. This journal seeks to continue and shift debates on how gender is problematized in contemporary discourses as well as participate in the dialogue and tensions that maintain the urgency of such conversations.

We feature cutting-edge research from a diverse range of methodologies and approaches to gender studies, and include work in feminist theories, queer theories, critical and cultural theory, literature, film studies, sociology and other relevant fields. As an online, open-access, international, peer-reviewed academic journal, we accept articles and book reviews on a wide range of topics and welcome critical debate across all fields of inquiry.

To support and extend the conversations that take place within our journal, we also organise a lecture and seminar series in Cardiff University. Details of such events will be posted on this site, and we hope to see you at one of our events.

Assuming Gender is based in the School of English, Communication, and Philosophy (http://www. facebook.com/EncapCardiffUni), Cardiff University and is funded by the Cardiff University Graduate School in Humanities and the Centre for Critical and Cultural Theory (http://www. facebook.com/CardiffCCCT). We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their generosity and support, without which this project simply would not have been possible.

We hope you will participate in the dialogues and debates as readers and contributors.

Whether you're just starting your Master's degree or your PhD at Cardiff, we would love to welcome you on our board! Assuming Gender started as a student-led project in 2008. It offers a rich space for theoretically informed debates around the hotly contested issue of gender and its place in society and culture, considered from a multidisciplinary perspective. You are welcome even if you're not based in ENCAP. Joining a research group is a great way to enhance your own work. Taking part in organising academic events and participating in a journal are also excellent ways to gain a better view of what it means to be a researcher. Last but not least you'll get to know other researchers based in ENCAP!
