Teased by Spring last week, we noticed Dave Macleod’s vid of his Indian Face ascent on Cloggy on UKC as we sought some cragging inspiration(!)… “Should the leader fail to negotiate the crux or be seized by palsy high on the pitch, disaster must be imminent – nay, inevitable…” Hmmm, might give that one a miss then. 😬😬😬
Now that winter‘s back, we reckon it’s time to get a bit more mileage indoors to boost strength and fitness and make those dream projects a little more attainable… just in time for the (actual) arrival of Spring. Whenever that may be…💪😀

We're gradually sending our glossy volumes away for a refurb and a nice coat of textured paint, so we're giving away the old t-nuts for any of you home-wall builders out there! As you can see, some are a tad rusty, and a few will have damaged threads, but the vast majority are good to go!

The final scores for the aggregates are now on our website here https://www.beaconclimbing.com/news/ with prizes awarded to the winner and runner up in each age/gender category. The prize giving ceremony was held on Saturday evening… but don’t worry if you couldn’t make it. You can pick up your prize from reception next time you visit Beacon.
Thanks to all the competitors who took part and made it happen… we hope to see you again next October! In the meantime, if you have any feedback regarding the scoring format, setting styles, number of problems or anything else then please do let us know so that we can make future aggregates as awesome as possible!

We’ve still got a handful of tickets left for tonight’s showing of UKC’s new feature length documentary: Statement of Youth.
Starting at 7.30pm this is your chance to experience the most colourful chapter in British climbing history and understand how a small group of climber including, Jerry Moffatt, Ben Moon, Andy Pollitt and Johnny Dawes, living outside the rest of society went on to become the most influential figures in the history of the sport.

The full results for Round 4 of the 2019 BMC Youth Climbing Series have now been published online.
We were super inspired to see so much talented youth crushing some damn hard routes across all age categories… and of course, thanks to the route setting team for working their magic on the walls.
On that note… the team has again been working hard during the last 24 hours to fill in any gaps and we’ll update you on progress later. Suffice to say we’ve got a ton of new stuff throughout the main leading area to get you all excited.

We’ve been checking out the new Menai Holiday Cottages website during our lunch break and we reckon it’s one of the best resources around for finding information about some of the mega stuff on offer in North Wales, including local events, great places to eat and drink and places to visit. It’s definitely not just for visitors either… we’ve been discovering some hidden gems that we didn’t even know existed. The website covers Anglesey, Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsula, so next time you’re stuck for something to do, check it out and see what you can find! https://www.menaiholidays.co.uk/explore/< br>

All the routes from yesterday's comp are graded and ready to climb now. These routes won't be in the aggregate though, which by the way ends at 10pm on Friday. Get ticking!

Don't forget we're hosting the Youth Climbing Series today. We are still open to the public but please be aware it will be very busy.

Join us on Saturday 30th March for our End of Aggregate Evening, including a screening of UKC’s new feature length documentary: Statement of Youth. Prizing giving for both the Leading Aggregate and the Bouldering Aggregate will commence at 6:30pm, followed by the film showing at 7:30pm.
The 1980’s saw climbing standards rise exponentially. At the start of the decade, 7b+ was cutting edge, but by the end of the 80’s 9a was the new world standard. By the end of the decade, the ...sport had changed beyond recognition and a paradigm was set for future generations.
A small group of climbers would do anything to climb full-time: sleeping in sheds underneath crags, shoplifting for food and clothes, and living off the dole. These climbers were living outside the rest of society and went on to become the most influential figures in the history of British climbing.
Directed by Nick Brown and featuring: Jerry Moffatt, Ben Moon, Andy Pollitt, Johnny Dawes, Chris Gore, Martin ‘Basher’ Atkinson, Zippy, Craig Smith, Steve the Pro, Quentin Fisher, Mark Leach, and Ed Douglas.

Just a quick note about our route setting schedule in the main room during the next few days… We’re hosting Round 4 of the BMC Youth Climbing Series on Saturday meaning that we’re in the process of setting the routes for the competition.
Our aim is to keep distribution and route closures to an absolute minimum and we’re hoping to only close a few lines at any given time, with the rest of the climbing areas open as usual. We’re also aiming to finish setting by 5pm on Thursday and Friday to ensure all lines are available during the evenings.
Bear in mind that Saturday will be REALLY busy until the comp finishes around 4pm. After which you’ll have a load of awesome new routes to try :)

A load of old exhibits are at the Beacon today, also quite a lot of historic climbing gear ;-) Our free 'Gear Revolution' exhibition is on today until 6:30pm, then lectures tonight ticket only (sold out). Come and see the exhibition in the Beacon lecture room (go through the cafe). The DMM test rig will be in our main room tonight at 5.30. So bring along your old gear and watch it get destroyed :-)
