I am a responsible, self-driven, well-organized and ambitious biologist with a very good attitude towards teaching and learning.

The realisation of my interest in education came to me whilst working at the Medical Centre for Postgraduate Education. Here, I was placed in front of future physicians, and scared (with my heart thumping in my chest), but at the same time excited, i delivered a lecture about thyroid proteins.

I absolutely loved the experience and then realised that even earlier (as an undergraduate student) I had enjoyed helping the less experienced students, always ready to provide them with knowledge (however limited it was at the time), support and words of encouragement.

When my supervising role became much more significant during my doctorate and post-doctorate years at University College Dublin and Cardiff University, I did not hesitate to mentor the B. Sc. students and Nuffield foundation pupils undertaking their science projects in my laboratory.

My most valuable experiences come indeed from my PhD and post-doctoral years. During this time, I was involved in facilitating Problem - and Case Based Learning classes for the undergraduate Veterinary and Medicine students whilst also working as a microbiology, biochemistry and molecular biology lab demonstrator.

During our sessions, my students worked in teams, exchanging and evaluating information related to the cases’ scenarios as well as performing actual experiments to better understand the topics in question.

It was my role to ensure everyone within the group was actively engaged in solving the problem - and I was not afraid to assess individual student’s performance to help them overcome any difficulties and perform in the best possible way.

The teaching /demonstrating `components` of my career thus far are what I have enjoyed the most - and indeed - have given me the most satisfaction.

These experiences - combined with my passion for teaching - taught me to appreciate the value of a proper education, and the importance of its availability to everyone.

Last year has brought me the opportunity to work with some talented young people as well as adult learners. Through them I have learned the tutoring process is not set in stone and everyone is different and needs individual approach.

I pride myself in preparation of tailored sessions and often provide additional teaching aids such as a microscope, slides, organ models, etc. to make sure my students understand topics in quenstion. I also prepare revision notes, former papers and worksheets covering the material we went throught together.

I like to use YouTube channels and PowerPoint presentations /animations to demonstrate the important information, as in the 21st century students like to use technology not only pen and paper.

What I DO NOT WANT is to make our sessions boring so I am always on the lookout for more interactive and relevant ways of knowledge communication.
