I am always on the lookout for beautiful things that don't break the bank! Many of our gifts are fairtrade, from Africa, South America, India and Bali. But we also have quirky glass and ceramics from Poland. And then there are the one-offs. We have some original art for sale, watercolours, mixed media, various sizes to suit your budget. Fantastic raku pieces from my friend and neighbour Sallie Wakley. And, most recently, I am thrilled to be back in touch with Clive Brocklehurst of White Hare Gifts. We have signed prints, handmade books and the most amazing mirrors made of Octarine. Such beauty, such prices. . .

Today I have been adding some of my very favourite products to the website. Tagua jewellery. Tagua is a palm nut which grows in the coastal jungles of Ecuador. It is harvested sustainably, and the industry provides employment for close on 35,000 indigenous people. The income from the crop provides a strong incentive to maintain the trees. The nuts are dried for three years before being cut into smaller pieces, shaped, polished and dyed. The jewellery is assembled by a family workshop in the mountains.
Opening a delivery of tagua is always a delight. No two pieces are identical, the colours are vibrant and it is very tactile. It is light to wear and unbelievably affordable. So on this freezing cold February day, why not treat yourself to a little bit of sunshine at www.affordtheunusual.co.uk.
It's Fairtrade Fortnight so I shall be focussing on adding Fairtrade gifts to the website. To get us off to a good start, these stunning log carvings are from Bali. Each piece is quite unique, but all are beautiful :-)

We are lucky to live in a very beautiful part of Wales, within easy striking distance of the beaches of the Gower and Pembrokeshire but also a short step to the Brecon Beacons and many quiet places undiscovered by tourists. These cards, published by The Heart of a Garden based in Cornwall, really capture the area. Blank inside, they are big enough for a short letter.
