Beth Whelan Duopody Reflexology Description

What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is an ancient healing system in the family of therapies including acupessure, acupuncture and shiatsu among othes. It is suitable for all ages and all kinds of conditions. It works on the basis that the body (the ‘macrosystem’) is reflected in the feet (the ‘microsystem’). Movements of deep, stimulating massage and feather-light, soothing touch over specific areas or ‘zones’ on the feet balance the systems of the body bringing about physical health and emotional well-being by encouraging the body’s natural healing processes to function.

This happens because the letting go of tension and stress allow the muscles and connective tissues of the body to relax; blood and lymph circulate freely in the body, carrying oxygen to the cells and flushing out toxins from the tissues; absorption of nutrients from food and elimination of waste products occur more efficiently; and so on - the benefits are manifold.

Regular sessions can help to maintain this balance and work towards becoming a healthier and happier self, paving the way for a healthier and happier future too.

Duopody Reflexology.
Duopody Reflexology is a system of treatment developed by Sue Alma Evans of the Inspira Academy. It differs from reflexology as practised elsewhere in that for the majority of the treatment, the feet are worked on simultaneously. The right and left feet reflect the right and left sides of the body. The body however, is one whole and not divided in two. So working with both feet at the same time better encourages balance in the body systems and consequently in the person as a whole.

What happens in a treatment?
I allow one and a half hours for the first consultation. During this time I will take
some details about your present condition and medical history to establish a treatment to suit you. A full treatment following that will take about an hour. Subsequent treatments may be an hour, half hour, or even fifteen minutes depending on what is necessary for your needs and the frequency of treatments will depend on your personal circumstances - for example, a short burst of frequent, shorter sessions for an acute problem or monthly, longer sessions for ongoing well being.

Who would benefit from reflexology?
Duopody Reflexology is suitable for anyone at any age. Reasons for coming for
treatment may include:
- Longstanding complaints such as asthma, digestive problems, hayfever, migraines, PMS
- Acute, short term problems such as a sports injury,
- Fertility
- Symptomatic relief from chronic conditions such as MS or fibromyalgia
- At times of stress or emotional trauma
- For general relaxation and well-being.
